Holidays in the Canary Islands and Top British Pubs

By Steve Alexander

It's is perhaps not surprising to find a number of English and Irish-owned drinking holes, as well as hotels and restaurants in Tenerife and the Canary Islands, as so many Brits flock here every year. Take a look at our list of the islands' best English and Irish bars if you're looking for a home away from home.

Macks Bar is a great place to while away the hours with a very reasonably priced pint of San Miguel with its idyllic location on Compostella Beach in Tenerife's Playa de las Americas. With homemade cooking, an impressive cocktail menu and live sport on the big screens also on offer, it's so much more than a room with a view.

Why not watch the sunset on the outside terrace here whilst tucking into a delicious serving of traditional apple and blackberry pie or beer-battered fish and chips, whilst sipping on a refreshing cocktail. You'll have plenty of time to refuel after a busy day of sunbathing as food is served daily from 9am till 9pm. The Sunday breakfast is incredibly popular and has been known to cure many a hangover.

For a home away from home during your holiday in Gran Canaria look no further than Big Bens too. This popular family-friendly English bar is suitably located in Playa del Ingles and is open every day from 9am till late. As well as roast dinners and classic full English breakfasts, customers can expect live sport, weekly quizzes and competitions.

With Mel, Tracey and Mark at the helm, as well as a number of returning regulars, there is a relaxed, family vibe. Helping to get the party started in an evening are a range of cabaret acts including a regular Diana Ross tribute show. If you're really missing home, you can even catch up on your favourite soaps too.
