Where to find entertainment in Madrid

By Lance Lycett

As you'd expect from the capital city of one of Europe's most obsessed countries, Madrid is a good spot to visit for the entertainment alone. While days can be spent around art studios and museums, at last any visitor wishes to stop.

And while art and museums can be engaging and supply entertainment in their own right, there is not anything like letting your hair down for a night in town. Here we have a look at some of the options available to you.

When you think about Spain and food you may think paella, the famous seafood dish that comes from Valencia, on the Mediterranean coast of Spain. However , you'll also potentially think of tapas, those fabulous morsels of food that are served to go with a drink. In fact most bars in Spain will serve tapas, but don't think they'll be inexpensive top eat. Frequently you will find that the amount of dishes piles up and you finish up spending much more than eating in a trattoria.

However , you can have a drink with two tapas in a bar and move on to the next , and that way you get some real variety. Standard tapas include Spanish omlette served cold; Serrano ham; prawns; and squid, although you will find other regional types in Madrid too.

Madrid is excellent for live music too , and in the city's clubs and bars you can hear jazz and flamenco as well as live gigs with some of the top names in rock and pop. Head for the center of the city for the former, while keep an eye open at the major locales if you'd like to see a big name perform live.

Finally, football is huge in Spain and Madrid is home to one of the most important clubs in the world. Real Madrid has the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and so if you 'd like to see them you need to buy Real Madrid tickets in advance, either at the ticket office if available, or online in advance.
