Read Why Young Hol Chan was Stolen

By Frank D. Gardner

In line with the reports of BBC, the 10 thousand years old skeleton submerged in Quintana Roo, which was found in the bottom of a cave was given the same name.

It was found in one of Tulum's underwater passageways or pools, also known as "cenotes" which is 542 meters from the entrance of the cave and 8 meters deep. It was in 2006 that this was discovered by divers as the area is open for diving enthusiasts. However, it has disappeared today.

Aside from it, 6 other skeletons have also been found in Quintana Roo from people who apparently lived during the last glaciation, since the fossilized remains were found in underwater caves, which indicated that they were buried on the surface when they have died. However, the remains were covered with water during the end of the ice age and due to snowmelt the sea level increased.

The Priceless Treasure Is Missing

For ages the bones of what could possibly be one of several earliest skeletons of America were collected. In 2010, most parts were collected which actually provided proof that the continent was populated by Asians.

We do not know from which period these human bones are because the bones were not yet analyzed. Owing to the fact that he lived before the material was used, he was deemed as "pre-ceramic".

The skeleton is now missing and the scientist can't study it. "Someone came ahead of us and we don't know where the skeleton is now.", mentioned Jeronimo Aviles, who participates in the "Pre-ceramic Men" project in the Yucatan Peninsula. In the time that the team of scholars visited the location of the discovered bones, they found out that the skeleton was taken out without any care. Only some remnants were left, plus 2 skulls from bats.

With the facts given, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) presented a report which states that the Institute has been robbed on several as well as repeated occasions. Nevertheless, it was stressed that this is a robbery like no other since it is the looting of an invaluable treasure having a high scientific value.

"The skeletons located in the Tulum's cenotes have a high importance to anthropological history due to their age, and because evidently they fit in with the very first occupants of The United States," mentioned Carmen Rojas Sandoval who has taken part of the study of the skeletons for the last decade.

It was emphasized by the researcher that, not everyone knew the bones' exact location; and to get there one has to proceed through flooded, dark mazes, a thousand seventy meters from the entrance with depth of 3 meters.

In 2011, the INAH released the news of the finding, but it certainly did not brought up the area of discovery. This makes us think of a prepared action from somebody who knew about the work. Yet, last March new images of the place were shown where they located the remains.

Hence, the link which could establish that the first humans arrived at the Yucatan Peninsula fleeing the ice age which had covered half the world for hundreds of years is LOST.

What sort of penalty do you think should be given to the thieves?
