A Great Vacation Destination!

By Martin C. Lunden

Whistler is one of North America's most popular winter destinations. Just a short two hour drive from Vancouver gets you to Whistler Village, the top ski destination year after year. It has become an icon in the ski resort industry.

Getting from Mountain to Mountain

Because Whistler and Blackcomb are so enormous, and separated by terrain, skiers used to have to pick one mountain or the other. There was simply too much space to cover. And getting from mountain top to mountain top simply took too much time. But Whistler's Peak 2 Peak gondola, a two-mile, 11-minute horizontal journey that joins the two mountains, allows you to ski on both mountains on a single day. This amazing gondola can move an enormous amount of people per hour in its 28-passenger cabins. Two cabins have glass bottoms, so those who are not afraid of heights can gaze 1,427 feet below.

Whistler for Kids

The Ski and Snowboard School is one of the largest in the world. Lessons are available for children aged three years and up to eighteen years. Children of all ages will love the facilities including a Magic Castle on Blackcomb Mountain and hidden Tree Fort on Whistler Mountain.

Shop, Shop, Shop

While Whistler Village has a relatively small local resident population, but the constant flow of seasonal workers and tourists has helped ensure that the shopping available around town is varied and impressive with over 200 shops in the Village. You can purchase whatever you need for your skiing or snowboarding in local shops throughout the village.

Eating Out

If you think you are limited to burgers and beer on the mountain, think again. Whistler has an amazing assortment of dining choices for any palate. And the variety is quite incredible. From after ski pubs, to posh lounges and higher end dining - the choices seem endless The flavours in Whistler's varied eateries will satisfy even the most discerning food connoisseur. The influence of Asian cuisine is unmistakable in Whistler and you'll be pleased to know that it will be some of the best samples you've enjoyed.

A Wild Night Out

The Nightlife in whistler is a reason in itself for coming here. World famous DJ's, live music, apres ski and a great party scene means there is some place for everyone no matter what your taste in entertainment. The pubs a great place for relaxing and partying and the food can be fantastic as well. At two in the morning, the nightclubs close. This can be a bit of a shock to tourist who are accustomed to clubs staying open till the early hours of the morning in their home country. Patios usually close at midnight. And bars close at 1am.
