Grenada Offers Unmatched Romance in Paradise

By Shannon Richardson

Its rolling and mountainous terrain might seem daunting when you've been a city dweller all your life. But you can't deny that the vibrant shades of green, blue, and red give Grenada an air of romance that cannot be found in any other island in the Caribbean. From the French-inspired (and built) town of St. George to the stunning beaches to the cascading waterfalls in the interior of the island, Grenada has everything to offer couples looking to celebrate a honeymoon or renew the spark in their relationship.

Grenada knows the power of their island to bind two hearts and has made it easy for those who wish to exchange their vows in a grand Caribbean wedding. You only need to be a resident of the island for three days (including weekends and public holidays) and you can apply for a marriage license from the Office of the Prime Minister.

Most hotels, villas, and resorts in Grenada take care of all wedding arrangements if you avail of their wedding packages so you don't have to worry about the preparations. Special perks like complementary room upgrades, champagne, and a fresh tropical fruits are given to honeymooners. But the perfect romantic getaway has just begun.

You can have a relaxing and fun time just strolling the white-sand and mile long beaches of Grenada with your special someone. Although Grand Anse is the most famous, the crowds may not be ideal for honeymooners. You can have more privacy in La Sagesse Beach or Bathway Beach. Another way to spend time together would be to go snorkeling. Explore the vast array of marine life in Flamingo Bay, Dragon Bay, or the Underwater Sculpture Park and marvel in the experience. Your explorations underwater are made more memorable by the richness of the flora and fauna that you will encounter there.

The most romantic areas in the island can also be found in its rainforest. The Annandale Waterfalls, which are surrounded by tropical plants, wild flowers, and lush greens, is the most accessible one. There are restrooms and shops and is just a few minutes' drive from the capital of St. George. But if you want to go when there aren't a lot of people around, don't go when the cruise ships are in harbor.

Hike to the Seven Sisters Waterfalls if you and your special someone love to explore the world on foot. It's not as challenging as Paraclete Waterfalls in St. Andrew but the trek can take about 45 minutes. The pool which receives the falls is wide, clear, and cool to swim in. Take the time to go further and you will be able to discover Honeymoon Falls.

If you would rather stay in the city, St. George has a lot of attractions to offer couples. Fort George and Fort Frederick allow you to get a sweeping view of the city and the Caribbean Sea and the numerous restaurants in the capital will enable you to share many romantic dinners together and savor the romance that is Grenada.
