Fishing Guide Port Aransas Helps You Get The Most Out Of Angling Vacation

By Brenda Morris

Port Aransas (PA) is a popular coastal destination in Texas for sports fishing enthusiasts and seaside vacationers. In recent years it has also become a fashionable spring-break destination for college students. Its sub-tropical climate, variety of angling alternatives, island setting and laid-back life-style attract many people. A fishing guide Port Aransas will help out-of-towners get the most out of their visit.

The tiny village sits at the northern end of Mustang Island. It is the only town on the island. Mustang is one of many barrier islands that string all along the Texas coastline. The number of permanent town residents totals little more than about three thousand or so, but this number pushes well above 60,000 during peak tourist summer months.

Mustang Island takes its name from thee wild horses that used to make their home on the island before human settlers arrived. It is 30 kilometres in length just south of San Jose Island and north of Padre Island. Mustang Island is connected to the mainland by a causeway and a free vehicular ferry service that operates 24x7, 365 days of the year.

The University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute is situated at the far north end of the town where the shipping channel meets the Gulf. It is the longest operating and most significant marine research facility on the Texas coast. Its main research vessel is the RV Katy, a 57-foot trawler.

Thousands of people visit the Institute each year as part of its Marine Education Services program. Many of those are school class groups. The Institute provides educational trips on the RV Katy, teacher training and other services for the public.

PA has a long history with fishing. At the beginning of the 20th century, the export of sea turtle was a major activity in the town. Today, tourism is the major economic driver.

In summary, waters surrounding Mustang and other barrier islands support more than 600 species of saltwater fish, so there is an abundance of alternatives. The big variety of species means a fishing guide Port Aransas is a useful convenience when visiting the village. It permits visitors to better focus on the angling style and targets of most interest to them. Tarpon, redfish and spotted sea trout are popular targets. fishing guide port aransas
