Boston is a name that many associate with worldwide repute as an established cultural and academic hub. Walk down the streets of Boston and you will be instantly charmed and fascinated by the quaint architecture, lush greenery in the parks and gardens, historical landmarks, and of course, the most prestigious universities in the world including Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

For those of you who are hoping to experience this wonderful city but have only a limited budget, you will be delighted to know that there are cheap Boston hotels available throughout the city that makes it accessible to budget travelers despite its prestigious reputation.

The cheaper accommodation in Boston can generally hold their own against their luxury counterparts in terms of comfort and convenience, while providing unmatched affordability to the budget traveler. While these hotels may not be filled with the trappings of luxury, you will be able to find rustic furnishings and an old world charm that matches the character of the city. While the amenities are fairly basic but sufficient, you will certainly feel at home with the cozy atmosphere exuded by these hotels.

When planning your trip to Boston, it is best to consult the events calendar as hotel occupancy rates usually rise sharply during certain popular events and festivals such as Independence Day, Patriot's Day and the Boston Marathon. As Boston boasts several top universities in the city, it is also to be expected that the graduation weekend towards the end of May will also result in more people streaming into the city to attend the ceremonies, resulting in less available rooms as well.

To avoid the unwelcome dilemma of a lack of hotel rooms during these periods, it is thus prudent to place your hotel bookings as early as you can to get the hotel room of your choice at the best rates. That being said, you still have other budget accommodation options in the suburbs which are still highly accessible to the downtown area via the public transportation networks.

If you want to be located close to all the main attractions in Boston which are within walking distance of each other, I would recommend that you find your hotel in the downtown area or Back Bay. Although hotel prices generally increase the closer you are to the city centre, there are still many cheaper accommodation options available from motels and bed and breakfasts to budget and mid-ranged hotels.

In the downtown area, you would be located in the vicinity of the financial district which is especially convenient if you are in Boston for business.

Leisure travelers will find the downtown and Back Bay easily accessible to all the historical attractions which they wish to see, as well as a host of dining, shopping and entertainment options. On top of it, both downtown and Back Bay boast great connectivity as the subway and trolley lines are highly concentrated here, making it easier to get to any attraction that you choose.
