Tuning Plus Waxing Methods For Ski And Snowboard For Maximum Safety

By Victor Hood

Whether you ski or snowboard, you want the best ride possible. You would be shocked, maybe, if you new the difference that tuned and waxed skis can have on your day. You'll notice it even more when the conditions are far less than ideal such as icy conditions. It really depends on where you live and spend your time skiing. It can be really easy to get complacent when you ski at the same place all the time. We'd like to talk more about tuning and waxing tips you can use on your skis and snowboards, but do be sure you continue learning more about it.

Having a good edge and wax job on your skis is a good idea for various reasons. We're not only talking about performance, but also safety because you can fall for reasons such as dull edges. Dull ski edges can be a major bummer when you're skiing on ice because your skis won't be able to grip properly. If your skis don't grip, then you'll spend a lot of time falling down and getting up. When it comes to wax, it's not only whether or not your skis have a good wax job on them, but also the wax needs to be right for your conditions. Temperatures can be a big factor, as well. If it's too cold outside for the wax that you used, it can cause you to slow down. So be sure to take all these factors into consideration when you're planning ahead.

You can do yourself a lot of good by simply doing the minimum maintenance to your ski base and edge. It's always recommended to do as much as possible, but not everyone has the time to do that. If you tend to take a minimalist approach to these things, then be sure to do at least basic care for your skis or snowboard. You should always dry your gear after a day on the mountains. Hit the edges of your skis with a diamond stone to maintain a sharp edge. With a little experience, you will know when the edge is sharp.

When waxing your skis, you will be safer if you go with one for slightly colder temperatures. There is a simple reason for this. A higher temperature condition wax in the wrong conditions will make your skis a bit on the sticky side. That means you won't be gliding as well, or as fast, as you hope which is very frustrating. You're out there to ski, not to skate. You want to iron the wax on to your skis. You should avoid lingering one spot too long just like when ironing clothes. You don't want to produce smoke when you're doing a hot wax job. Let the ski cool for about half an hour before doing anything else with it.

There are many more tips and tricks available for waxing and tuning your skis and snowboards. Or you can avoid it altogether and take your equipment to a local ski shop to have it done.

A Smart Car Interior With Regular Cleaning

By Owen Jones

Many people may often overlook washing the car interior, but is worth noting that most of us spend a significant amount of time inside the car during the day. So finding time regularly in the midst of our busy 24/7 schedule to remove the dirt, trash and mud would save a lot of time later when detailing the interior.

A vacuum cleaner and a few household items will help to detail your car. Detailed cleaning becomes necessary after a trip to the beach or places where children and adults bring in a lot of dirt, however in other cases a regular vacuuming and dusting of your car's interior will help maintain the car?s interior.

Investing in a decent car vacuum like a Vac N'Blo Portable Vacuum from Metropolitan Vacuum which has two very useful attachments (the crevice attachment and the dust brush attachment) and using it for around 30 minutes on a weekend would be useful.

A plastic crevice attachment is preferable considering that a metal attachment might scratch and damage the leather or vinyl upholstery. This attachment helps reach below the seats, into tight seams, nooks and crannies and around seat beads. Energetically rubbing it on the carpet helps to bring up sand and grit.

Cleaning the interior of your favorite car begins with removing the floor mats and shaking them to displace any dirt sticking to it. Once this is done, pick up any rubbish, empty the ash tray and storage compartments. Then comes vacuuming. So if you do not possess a car vacuum then you could use the hose attachment of a domestic vacuum.

Use it to clean the seat cushions and crevices where cushions meet, the bottom and backrest making certain to check well beneath the seats for coins and rubbish before doing it.

Then vacuum the car floor, including the regions beneath the car seats too. After that, wash the floor mats and give them that final shake to make certain that they are spotless.

After this the mats may be placed back in position properly. It is quite possible that there may be stains on the cloth of the seats, cushions or carpets.

Use a moist towel to apply a small quantity of carpet shampoo to eradicate the stain. However, it proves vital to know the details about the product you use in the car?s interior and so try the product on a small, inconspicuous patch.

Once you have cleaned off the stains, it is necessary to use a moist sponge to remove the surplus shampoo. The carpet should then be left to dry. Using carpet shampoo is not wise on leather. Next clean your windows and polish them with a window cleaner and newspaper or paper towels.

Next vacuum or brush the muck from the dashboard and doors. Spray a small amount of vinyl protector on a moist towel or rag and gently wipe the dashboard, door handles and all vinyl. This completes the cleaning of the interior of your car.

History of Mexican Cinema Part 2

By Robert Nickel

While the rough time line of Hollywood is very well-known, not everyone knows that Mexico's film industry began only a few years after the American one did. The period from the early 1940s until approximately 1957 was known as the Golden Age of Mexican cinema; however, the end of that era did not signal the end of the country's filmmaking. There are many filmmakers and actors from the area who have established a brand new trend which has flourished into the twenty-first century.

The 1960s and 1970s saw a large number of cult horror and action movies being produced, many starring the professional wrestler El Santo. The later years of the 1970s and the start of the 1980s resulted in the flourishing of many prominent filmmakers including Luis Alcoriza, Felipe Cazals, and Paul Leduc. Alejandro Jodorowsky was one of the artists who sought to bring surrealism to the country's industry; his 1970 production 'El Topo' is a favorite of David Lynch, Bob Dylan, and Peter Gabriel, among other famous figures who found it inspiring.

From the 1990s until the present, Mexican filmmaking has become known for high quality, internationally famous productions; the era is called Nuevo Cine Mexicano. Directors were able to make movies in their native country that became world-renowned. One of the first films of the period was the adaptation of the novel 'Like Water for Chocolate' by Alfonso Arau; it was made in 1992, and became the highest-grossing Spanish-language film released in the United States at the time.

Alfonso Cuaron is perhaps best known among casual moviegoers for directing the third installment in the 'Harry Potter' franchise, as well as for the science-fiction feature 'Children of Men'. He began his career in Mexico by making the comedy 'Solo con tu Pareja', catching the attention of Hollywood producers. His 2001 drama, 'Y Tu Mama Tambien', gained a nomination for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards, and is one of the most famous 21st-century Mexican movies.

Guillermo del Toro was born in Guadalajara, and rose to fame for his 1995 film 'Chronos'. He is well-known for his surreal, magical horror movies; his 2006 release 'Pan's Labyrinth' won three Academy Awards, for Art Direction, Cinematography, and Makeup. He has also made the two Hellboy comic book adaptations, and is credited as a writer of the highly anticipated 2012 production of 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'. Other famous Mexican personalities include Salma Hayak, Gael Garcia Bernal, and Ricardo Montalban.

Step 1

Build a simple strongback to support the molds and create a centerline. It requires two dry, straight 2x6 pieces of lumber. Screw the two pieces together to form a T shape base to build the boat on. Put some legs on the T so that it stands on it's own.

Step 2

Cut up plywood into molds that will form the shape of the canoe. You can use eitehr a jig saw or a bandsaw to do it. Next, cut the molds for the stems (the stern and the bow). Put the molds onto the strongback in the appropriate places (the plans will give you the meaurements.

Step 3

Make or buy the 1/4" by 3/4" strips you will use to build the boat. If you make your own strips you will need a table saw, band saw or radial arm saw to rip the cedar strips from 1" x 4" straight grain, clear cedar boards. Then bead and cove the edges of the strips using a router. If you don't have those tools or want to go faster you can buy pre-made strips.

Step 4

Bend the strips in place around the molds. Ther is no need to steam the strips. They bend quite well. The strips get glued to each other and nailed or tacked to the molds. Different types of glue can be used.

Step Five

After all the strips are in place and glued pull all the nails or staples. Clean any excess glue off the hull. Sand the outside of the hull until it is nice and smooth. Lay the fibreglass cloth on the hull and trim it to make it lie flat. Apply epoxy to the cloth as the instructions indicate. Put the outer gunwales on the hull to stiffen it up. Take the hull off the molds and turn it over. Sand the inside and epoxy it. Next, install the inner gunwales and the decks in the bow and stern.

Step Six

Build the thwarts and seats. Install any hardware that you plan to use. Protect the hull with some spar varnish or some other UV protector. You've just finished your first canoe.

All About The Short And Long Count Of The Mayan Calendar

By Linda Patterson

The Mayan civilization was advanced for its time especially when it comes to ways to measure the time plus they have a great knowledge in astronomy and geometry. Several experts in the fields of astronomy, mathematics as well as other sciences discover the way the Maya utilized to calculate periods of time unique.

The basics of their calendar system were a lot like various other calendar systems found in the same region of the world by some other Mesoamerican civilizations, dating as far back in time since the 5th century BC.

The Mayan calendar's earlier form is used to present the concept of time as future, present, and past. The Maya understood well that time is linear and that they needed a way to tell if one event had transpired previous to another. This very basic concept instantly become a whole lot more complicated, sophisticated as well as precise calendar system, which individuals find remarkable even now.

The Long Count And the Short Count are the two main parts in the Mayan calendar that are used to calculate as well as measure the time. Both the Long Count and the Short Count have a particular date as a beginning point - August 11, 3114 BC when we're utilizing the present Gregorian calendar to define it, as well as September 6, 3114 BC if we're utilizing the Julian calendar.

Short periods of time was measure by the Short Count. It contained 260 days, split up into thirteen periods (twenty days each). By doing this of counting the time continues to be utilized in a few regions of Guatemala by forefathers of the Mesoamerican civilizations.

It is the Short Count that is utilized to measure short periods of time. It consisted of 260 days, divided into 13 periods (twenty days each). By doing this of counting the time remains to be employed in some areas of Guatemala by ancestors and forefathers of the Mesoamerican civilizations. For the most part, they mainly utilize the Long Count for measuring longer periods of time and events which happened for a very long time ago or may happen very far into the future. This calendar system was also utilized for the inscription of calendar dates.

The Long Count's cycle is separate from the solar year, because the Maya utilized the vigesimal (base 20) rather than the decimal (base 10) numeral system. One Long Count period adhering to the rule previously mentioned must have been equivalent to 400 days, however the Maya allowed an exception to the rule and also the actual Long Count period is 360 days. Despite the fact that this recently formed period is very near to the solar year, it's still 5 days shorter. It's not certain why the Maya chose to change their calendar a bit, however the fact that they did so displays how very well they recognized and also observed the sky and also the placement of the stars within it.

Moreover, Venus and the Moon takes a huge role in the ancient Maya Calendar, and they have separate Long Count inscriptions to represent the lunar cycles as well as a Venus cycle.

One Venus cycle was 584 days long, and events just like warfare and conquests were timed to correspond to certain phases of this cycle. Scientists right now find appealing the fact that the Maya were able to measure the Venus cycle very precisely; showing great observation and astronomy skills plus understanding of the way the planets move in the sky.

Historians have found out that the lunar cycles also take an important role. The Mayan calendar has several lunar cycles that happen to be connected with weather, deities, animals, and food. These cycles demonstrate how highly developed the culture of the Mayan was and exactly how close the connection was between them and our mother earth.

A final thought, the Mayan calendar is a truly complex device in order to measure the time in long or short periods. It demonstrates that the Mayans understood the idea of time, and had a brilliant approach to place an event in a period of time - past, present or future. They designed an evolved not to mention complex calendar concept (the Long Count) by using additional supplementary forms to the 1st calendar (the Short Count). Accordingly, the Mayan calendar was most likely the most innovative and exceptional calendar for its time, as well as a lot of civilizations used it fully or partly through the following generations.
