Discovering Vacation Spots In Your Neighborhood

By Albert Sperk

Most times we fail to appreciate things that are right in front of us. This also applies to vacation spots that are located in close proximity to your area of residence. When you have lived in one place for a long period of time, you usually take for granted the sights that you pass by on your daily commute. It could also be that your idea of a vacation is one that should include a lengthy travel to your chosen destination. It cannot be helped somehow since it does make sense that someone used to living with the noisy streets of New York City may want to spend a quiet and relaxing holiday at several beaches in the West Coast. Similarly, Florida locals may welcome a change in climate by taking ski tours in Colorado.

With the rising costs of fuel and airfare, it may well be worth looking for a place within your locale that can provide you with a refreshing time away from home without breaking your budget. It can also be good to look at your neighborhood from a different perspective. You may be surprised to see a few things you would not have otherwise noticed.

To some people, the vacation destination is secondary to the soothing feeling they get from a long and scenic drive. Though staying at a motel does not constitute a vacation, the savings it provides can be tolerated if it is within the vicinity of a prime vacation spot that may charge high for its accommodations. The drive, coupled with the reasonable lodgings can make it all worthwhile.

Still, for others, long trips are not only time consuming, but tiring as well. Feeling spent upon reaching your destination takes much of the fun out of the whole trip. The journey, especially to unfamiliar places can be even more aggravating when you find yourself lost. If there is a site closer to home, you are assured of less stress and a much faster travel time. You may also learn a thing or two about your community and discover what makes other people visit your area as well. Keeping an open mind allows you to recognize the value of your surroundings and have a renewed appreciation for your district.

Doing some research on your home state, or by simply looking through a map, you may be surprised to know that there are sites that you never knew existed and may just end up being a great vacation spot. By allowing yourself to see what is right in front of you, or in this case, right in your back yard, you possibly will be able to find a restful break in a comfortable and familiar environment without having to spend much.

Five Tell Tale Features Of A Fantastic Hotel

By Jan Hewitt

Finding a top class hotel is an extremely difficult task. There are many hotels that impress with their looks from the outside, whereas the inside leaves a lot to be desired. Similarly there are hotels that don't look so great from the outside, but are lovely on the inside. It is not always the best thing as they say, to judge a book by its cover. With the recent recession travelling for fun has been in decline. Similarly even business travel has been cut to a minimum to save money. It is no wonder hotels are constantly competing with the larger hotel groups for filling bed space. So how do you choose the best hotel from the choice you have? It's not always about cost. A 50 pounds a night hotel in one area may be tonnes better than a 50 in a popular area, simply because that area is in demand. So in a big city like London, for example, how do you make your choice?

The first thing to do is check out the facilities. These days most hotels with have their own websites that will detail their facilities. At the very least, you want tea and coffee making facilities and an en-suite bathroom or shower room. There was a time when hotels would have one shared bathroom. These days we have a little more choice, and it definitely best to find a hotel that at least gives you the privacy of your own shower! Tea and coffee making facilities should normally be on offer. Don't fuss too much if you don't have the more minor facilities such as the trouser press. Is a trouser press and mini bar really a necessity? Don't forget as well, you can normally expect to pay an arm and a leg for a chocolate bar! A bottle of water can end up costing more than a decent bottle of wine.

Study with much more detail the more important facilities you'd expect to have access to for an extended stay. If you are just stopping over night, there is nothing to stop you sampling the cuisine at a local restaurant. However, should you be staying for a while you might want the cost and convenience of a hotel with its own restaurant. The need for a bar generally comes down to the individual! For work travel, you are probably going to be that tired after a hard day, that you'll probably just want to go to sleep. However, should the purpose of your travel be for pleasure, you really need to unwind at the bar!

Beyond the facilities it is worth reading up on the hotel. The local tourist board should be able to offer independent advice.Far quicker though, is jumping on Google and typing the hotel name in. Normally you will find the hotel will come up on a number of review websites. Take the reviews with a pinch of salt though. Some people's reviews show they are very difficult to please. For 50 pounds they are probably expecting a 500 pound service. On the flip side, some people are far too easily pleased. The best reviews go into lots of detail from the start of the experience to the end. It's easier to work out how fair a review is when it is longer and more detailed.

You can always ring the hotel reception before booking. If the staff are friendly and courteous, that hotel is worth booking! If on the other hand the reception staff are unhelpful and seem uninterested, that hotel may be worth avoiding. Remember to ask the staff to confirm the room facilities.

All in all, after some research you should be able to pick out the best hotel.Bear in mind though, in places like London events can dictate availability and you may find during peak times the hotel unavailable. It's always worth booking your hotel room in advance to avoid disappointment. Wherever you choose, leave a review and have a good time!

The Greatest Phillip Seymour Hoffman Roles So Far

By Edward Matthews

No one can deny the talent that Philip Seymour Hoffman showcases in almost every role he stars in. Whether it's a comedy, drama or other genre of film, you can be sure of one thing: If its starring Philip Seymour Hoffman, it will display the talent of one of the best actors working today.

Here are my top five favorite films that star or feature Philip Seymour Hoffman in a leading or supporting role.

The first movie I will discuss is a rather dark film and was released on a smaller scale, as many of his films often are. Before The Devil Knows You're Dead is a difficult film to get through, but Hoffman's acting is nothing short of top notch.

Another great film featuring the great Philip Seymour Hoffman is Twister. Again, this is not a leading role for Hoffman, but you cannot deny that he knows how to choose a role and does not simply jump at the gun to act in any movie. I haven't seen this movie in quite some time, but I still remember how amazing the special effects looked in theaters.

One movie that must be mentioned when discussing Hoffman films is Doubt. This movie stars Hoffman as a priest being questioned by a strict and evil nun, played by none other than the great Meryl Streep.

One film that featured Philip Seymour Hoffman which I absolutely love is 25th Hour. Hoffman plays a teacher who is the friend of a man about to be locked up for many years (played by Edward Norton). As they enjoy their last night out together, things take an interesting turn.

One other film that I feel the need to discuss is the movie that nabbed him an Academy Award for Best Actor In A Lead Role, and that was of course the movie Capote. Hoffman played the part of Truman Capote as no one else could.

These are just some of the great films starring the ever so talented Philip Seymour Hoffman.

What Is A Timeshare? Read And Find Out If You Would Benefit From Owning One.

By Emil Yau

Timeshares today are misunderstood by many and sometimes carry a "scam" like connotation to them. This is really just bad press as I will share with you in this article why I like timeshare.

A timeshare is a name given to a piece of property shared among number of owners.

Timeshare properties have traditionally been condominium resorts but the choices of properties are increasing every day. You have hotels, motor home parks, campgrounds, and even cruises now offering timeshare options.

The idea of timeshares is said to have originated in the 1960's when it became increasingly expensive to own a vacation house. The idea of splitting not just the property but time for the property for a week was a novel idea to make it more affordable to own time in a vacation resort and also include ownership versus renting. With the sharing of cost of ownership, the cost of maintenance of the property also is spread amongst all the owners. This makes vacation property quite affordable for many people.

How a timeshare property differs from a regular real estate property is that you can only use the property for a specific time duration.

But as more and more properties are being converted into timeshare, flexible timeshare options cannot be ruled out. The flexible timeshare offers owners the option of choosing more than one timeshare destination and also more than one specific time of a year.

The most common timeshare ownership duration is a week.

The cost of a property will of course vary depending on where it is, how desirable it is, and even what season the ownership is. Like basic economics, supply and demand will determine the pricing of a property and its "trade in" value.

Timeshare offers not only a great vacation but can also be a great investment. However, they should not be purchased only as an investment.

If you do not plan to use your timeshare or rent your timeshare, I would advise against buying one because selling a timeshare can be difficult. If you use your timeshare, then it is a great investment because you are then owning instead of renting so to speak. Just like real estate property, they can be inherited by your children. Just like real estate property, they can be rented out if you do not plan to use your week for that year. Just like real estate property, they can be paid off leaving the rest of your vacation time "free" for the rest of your years to come (maintenance fees will still apply). Unlike real estate property, units can be put into a pool where you can then trade for other units. So for example we own a unit in Hawaii, but if that year we want to go to Florida we can put our unit into a pool and then see if there is a Florida unit we can use in its place.

Timeshares are NOT for everyone.

Buying a unit is buying real estate. In the same way you would do your research and due diligence when purchasing a house, you must go into purchasing timeshare units in the same way. Know what you are getting, know the costs, and figure out if it is worth it for you. Know if you will actually use it or not or be able to rent it, because that is a lot of the value it provides. If you don't use it, it will possibly not be a wise purchase for you.

On a personal note, we are part of a family of timeshare owners. It is a good investment for us because we know we will use it. And similar to a house with a 30 year mortgage, when this timeshare is paid off we only need to pay maintenance fees and can enjoy the "property" for the rest our lives and even pass it on to our heirs. Besides that, we find a lot of value in our timeshares because it "forces" us to take a vacation together. We personally live hectic lives and this really holds us accountable to relaxing and taking a vacation with our loved ones.

My hope is that I have explained well what a timeshare property is, and that you are able to use this information to decide whether or not a timeshare makes sense to you.

As the holidays approach, more and more organizations and clubs are hosting masquerade balls. These high-end balls are set with medieval decorations and food. If you wish to attend, you would be required to wear a costume and masquerade mask to conceal your identities. How would you choose your masquerade mask?

What you should do before you start looking is to think about what event you'll be attending. If you'll be attending a wedding, then perhaps you would like to wear a white, classy mask. This would opt for a mask on a stick for the ladies, and a half facemask for the guys.

For proms, you would have a wide range of options, but you should keep the color in mind. You should find a mask that will compliment the outfit you would be wearing. If nothing works, the go for the black and white mask. It will work with most if not all outfits.

If you are attending Mardi gras, then you should definitely grab the opportunity to get yourself an elaborate masquerade mask. Designed and hand crafted by artists, these unique, one of a kind masks are sure to satisfy you.

If you are perhaps considering purchasing cheap masquerade masks, then it would be best for you to keep in mind that even if these masks are pretty, they are not constructed well and are definitely not designed to last long.

Make sure, when you choose your masquerade mask, that it is comfortable and fit nicely. If it would just be worn for a couple minutes, then it doesn't matter; but if you are looking to wear it for any longer period of time, then you definitely want to ensure your comfort and that it wouldn't fall off.

It would be okay to use an uncomfortable mask though, if it was just a few minutes. Keep in mind the material when you purchase or look at a Venetian masquerade mask.

Lightweight masks are made from paper mache and feathers, whereas heavier and hotter masks are made from leather. Finally, you should research and find a mask that suits your style and is comfortable and will ensure that you have a great time.
