How To Get Your Girlfriend A UK Visitor's Visa

By Owen Jones

Applying for a UK visitor's visa for a foreign friend to go to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland can be very stressful. I am also certain that it is more difficult for people from some countries than for others. This is because the staff are concerned about the applicant's ability to support him/herself. This is government policy and you must not hold it against the embassy staff - they are only doing their job! It is well worth remembering this when talking to the embassy staff about a UK visitor's visa.

It is worth pointing out here that a (British) UK visitors visa is valid for six months and multiple entries into the UK, although in practice, the first visa to be granted will usually be limited by a note pinned into the visitors passport. For example, if you have applied for a visa to visit friends for the month of, say, March, you would be granted a multiple entry, 180 day visitor's visa with a letter, signed by yourself, pinned into your passport, which states that you wish to visit the UK from March 1st to March 31st and that you will not attempt to extend that stay.

The stipulations of the visa also forbid you from claiming social benefits such as social security and national health. Very often, applicants are refused on their first try, because they do not present a strong enough reason for wanting to go to the UK. If the reason is to visit a friend, then the onus is on the applicant to prove a continuing, long-lasting relationship. This should have continued for at least 6 months and you should devote your attention to proving it

I will concentrate on providing evidence of a continuing relationship. Most applicants from poorer countries will need a sponsor. This is usually an employer or a lover. Obviously, immigration stamps in a passport can prove how long it is possible that a couple could have known each other, but you will need more evidence than that. A letter from a friend, employer or relative stating when you met can help. However, you should keep all correspondence, telephone bills, bank statements (recordings of ATM transactions), restaurant receipts, theatre tickets, train and bus tickets, even menus and photos. In fact, anything that can help establish that you are having the relationship that you claim you are having and that you have had it for at least six months.

You could then obtain the application form (VAF) either by writing to or visiting the nearest British Embassy or Consulate or downloading it from the Internet. Most embassy sites provide excellent advice on what is required or recommended to put in the envelope with your UK visitor's visa application form, but it will include: two colour, passport-size photos; the application fee (about 50) in local currency; the applicant's passport; proof of the applicant's address; proof of a continuing relationship of at least six months; the sponsor's letter; proof of the sponsor's means of support; proof of the sponsor's accommodation and possibly, the sponsor's passport to prove entry stamps.

So, you must realize that the sponsor is crucial to a successful first application for a UK visitor's visa. Your sponsor will be required to make up any shortfall in money that the applicant has and the British embassy staff will need to be able to satisfy themselves that he/she has the wherewithal to do it.

This means that the sponsor has to provide a letter from his/her employer proving continued, stable employment and/or a bank book, proving that he/she has enough money to provide what he/she has pledged on the UK visitor's visa application form; and proof of accommodation in the form of paid council tax bills, property deeds or a letter from the mortgage provider. Proof of marital status does not seem to be an issue for the sponsor or the applicant, although the question is asked of the latter. Some applicants are refused for apparently strange reasons such as:

"the person applying for a UK visitor's visa has never left the country before": this is usually quite easy to remedy if you live near a border.

"the applicant for a UK visitor's visa has not displayed a strong enough economic or social bond to his/her country" meaning that they do not trust him/her to return to his/her native country. A letter from a relative, proof of children and a letter from the applicant's employer can help, although proof of children is not considered a compelling social reason to return! Proof of property ownership is useful.

It is better to take your time instead of rushing the application for a UK visitor's visa. Make sure you have a valid reason for wanting to visit the UK and then make sure you can validate everything you say. Treat the application as if you were a barrister: back up everything you say with evidence or a letter.

Run through applicant's story until he/she has it well-rehearsed (they will not want to see the sponsor and sometimes, he/she is not even allowed to wait on the embassy compound). The applicant for a UK visitor's visa will be required to attend an interview the first time and this can be held in English or the applicant's native tongue. The UK visitor's visa will normally be available for collection the next day.

Warning: get a longer permit to stay than you need, because the UK visitor's visa is valid from the day it is issued, but you probably don't have a flight booked yet. You can be delayed getting there and coming back too. The rest of the 180-day multiple entry UK visitor's visa may have to be cancelled on your return to help deter you from returning on that visa. If you have to do this, don't return on a Friday because the embassy is closed on the weekend.

Please do not be tempted to lie! The embassy staff are trained to weed out liars and they are good at their job. It will cost you your UK visitor's visa if you are caught out. If you don't know an answer, just say so.

How to Effectively Use Social Media for business

By Mitchell Scott

Social Media can be an effective way to get traffic to your website, meet people in your industry, and connect with others. However, many people and companies aren't using it very effectively. This article will show you some good ways to use the two biggest Social Networks (Facebook and Twitter) as well as give you some bonus tips on other ways you can connect with people online. I will be using the travel industry as an example but nearly everything I suggest can be applied to multiple industries and niches.

Facebook may be a good way of extending the reach of your blog and sharing it family and friends (if your all set to take that step). I suggest that you setup a Facebook page as the home blog on Facebook. You are able to set your blog posts to automatically post to this Facebook page. Once your page is set up, you might want to look into making a custom landing page. The default landing page for new people (to your page) is your wall. This is jam-packed with information and can turn people off which means they'll never get back. A landing page is specially designed to present people more info about just what to anticipate from a page and encourages them to "Like" it.

Once your page is set up you can start telling people about it. You can add a Facebook Like box to your blog to convert blog visitors into Facebook fans of your page. You can also promote it to your friends and family as well as any other forums or online communities you are a part of.

Once you have a Facebook Page that is attracting people you need to keep them there. Update your page regularly with interesting content and try to pose questions that encourage a response. You want to get individuals to communicate withconnect to your page rather then just lurking.

Twitter is another fantastic tool for networking, especially amongst the travel community. There are discussions about travel going on constantly. You can find these discussions by searching some of the following hashtags. #ttot #lp #rtw #tni #matador Once you find an interesting tweet or link posted in twitter, respond. Give the tweeter props for posting it, retweet their link, or offer your thinking or advice. Your ultimate goal should be to start building relationships online with people so that they will in return check out your blog post or share your links.

1 last technique to team up with individuals who havethose people who have similar interests online is through the utilization of forums. Forums are online discussion groups usually based around particular topics or industries. A terrific travel forum is the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree Forum. It's a excellent place to meetto connect with those with similar goals, feelings, and desires. You will get and provide travel advice, meet new people to travel with, or perhaps just swap travel stories. These types of forums exist for nearly every industry/niche imaginable. Usually they are free to join and you are able to back-link to your website from them in your signature. They can be a very good way of getting targeted traffic to your site as well as getting the word about your products or services without seeming spammy.

Hopefully this post can give you some ideas on how you can use Social networking to properly drive traffic (and sales) to your website or blog. I've used examples coming from the travel industry but the strategies outlined can be applied nearly anywhere on the net. So get out there and begin getting social!

Exploring Butrint

By Chris Wheelwright

Butrint (or Butrinti) is a UNESCO Global Heritage Site in south-west Albania. Strategically located on the Straits of Corfu, and encompassed by an interesting lagoon, it is one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in the Adriatic Sea region.

Following many years of excavations and investment in site administration, the site and its museum make it an enormously tasty spot for a visit. The site location is definitely an attractive site with its monuments in thick woods, encircled by a marshy surroundings between Lake Butrint, an inland lagoon, and the busy straits isolating Corfu from Albania, regarded as environmental sanctuary rich in birdlife.

Even those not enthused about archaeology will find it almost impossible not to like this place. An accidental traveler will enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, the smell of the eucalyptus woods, and the crickets chirping between the ruins. The site is reasonably complex, with monuments dating from a spread of periods covering 2500 years. When walking through the ruins, it is hard to picture the different forms this city has taken, and the differing fortunes of the inhabitants through the generations.

The site has been occupied since at least the eighth century B. C. One of the most renowned fables linked to the origin of Butrint talk of the city's foundation by Trojan exiles.

By the 4th century B. C a walled colony was founded and the town grew to be a magnificent cult site dedicated to Asclepius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. The Roman Emperor Augustus set up a colony at Butrint and the city appears to have stayed a rather modest Roman port up until the 6th century Anno Domini.

Its successive medieval history was turbulent as the town was for ages involved in the power struggles between Byzantium and successive Norman, Angevin and Venetian states, and then in the struggle between Venice and the Ottoman Turks.

By the start of the 1800s the site of Butrint had reduced to a miniscule fishing village clustered around a Venetian castle.

Admission to Butrint is 700 lek for foreigners and 200 lek for Albanians. Cost of admission includes admission to the museum situated in the castle on the hill, overlooking the whole park. Both the park and the museum are typically open 09:00 - 16:00 and tourist guides can be acquired in many foreign languages. Ask at the ticket booth to learn more.

It is vital to respond rationally in this case, otherwise the situation might become worse. If you possibly are part of an accident, follow these tips to make the best of a poor situation. But using cadillac wheels is different.

Transporting your vehicle off the road is the very first thing to do after an accident. This is usually a preventive measure against the occurrence of subsequent accidents. A number of other drivers might be taken unawares by a crashed automobile on the road and smash into it, making an already bad situation worse. Therefore the urgency connected with removing the crashed vehicles from the roadway. After that, turn on your hazard lights, in order that others can see the danger from a distance. Don't even think if no one's harmed that you don't have to call the police; you always have to call them, and that's the next thing to do. Always make an effort to retain a state of peace in the event of an accident, so that the event doesn't overwhelm you. Center on not getting stressed, and staying in control. Last but not least, bear in mind that a hot disagreement with the other driver should be avoided, because it delays and works against getting the matter sorted out.

The History Of Horse Racing In Britain And America

By Byron Jonas

The very first human that saw horses racing across the plain probably decided which one would get there first and made a mental bet on it. Horse racing is an ancient sport and can be traced to Central Asia in 4500 BC with those that first started to ride and domesticate the wild horses in the area. Kings and upper class were the first to race their own horses and make wagers on who would win. The first Olympics in Greece had several horse racing events from mounted horses to chariot races. This was the very beginning of the history of horse racing.

Modern horse racing began after the crusades when the 12th century knights brought Arabian horses back to England with them. Arabians were larger and swifter than the English horse. They returned with stallions that were bred with the English Horse. This made the offspring very strong and able to endure long and hard riding with speed and grace.

Up until 1752 there was no documentation of any horse races until the race from Buttevant Church to St Marys in Ireland County Cork in the town on Doneraile. The horses raced from the steeple of one church to the steeple of the other and the first steeplechase was born. Steeple chasing was very popular in Britain and the most well known races are Liverpools Grand National that ran its first race in 1839 and the Irish Grand National taking place on Easter weekend every year in County Meath.

Starting in the nineteenth century professional horse racing had started. Training of horses and of people to ride the horses was desired because you wanted to have the best horse. The best horse made the most money in the betting circles. Those that owned the trained horses made a great deal of money in 1750 they started up a governing authority for horse racing at Newmarket forming the Jockey Club. This authority has all control over British Horse Racing to this day.

All regulations and rules pertaining to horse racing were recorded by the Jockey club. When making rules they looked at the type of racing and tracks that needed to be used for that particular type. It set up five races for three year old horses, three for only male horses and three for only fillies which makes up the English Triple Crown. The Jockey club administered all breeding regulation too. They documented pedigree of each horse and regulated what horses could race.

Horses that have a documented family tree or pedigree are considered Thoroughbreds. These horses have been inbred and can have their linage tracked down to one of three Stallions brought over from Arabia and bred with other horses. Racing of thoroughbreds came over to America in 1665 and a track was built on Long Island. Racing horses became very popular and by 1890 there were over 300 race tracks in America.

This was a problem because America did not have the Jockey Club to regulate the tracks and therefore they were run by crooked individuals only interested in getting rich without care of the sport. In 1894 the American Jockey Club was formed. They had their hands full because horse racing in America had become something deplorable instead of a grand day out for the wealthy as it was in England. Those that frequented American race tracks were considered to be undesirables.

Interestingly enough during this time of exile for horse racing in America, pari-mutuel betting was introduced for the Kentucky Derby in 1908. This was legalized horse gambling and this turned everything around for horse racing in America. Tracks began to open again and grew from the mere 35 that were left. Horse racing once again was a respectable sport and by 1970 it was very popular again.

In America and Britain there are several different forms of horse racing. The Steeplechase is very popular in both countries. An American variety of racing called harness racing has many tracks that were specifically built to specifications for that type of racing. Thoroughbred racing is probably the most popular and consists of a flat, oval track from about three fourths of a mile to two miles in length. Both countries have many thoroughbred racing venues from which to choose. Both countries have regulations and rules that make racing and betting acceptable. They also regulate horses that can race and continue to keep a running record of all pedigrees of race horses.
