How To Find The Right Paddle Board Maui For You

By Virginia Stevens

If you love the idea of getting out on the water as a fun and exciting form of exercise, you may be thinking about getting a paddle board. But which one? There are many different types and options on the market. Here are some things to consider that will help you pick the right paddle board Maui for your needs.

Being on a board is extremely relaxing and can take away much of the stress that daily life brings. Imagine feeling the waves rocking beneath your feet while you paddle your SUP through the waves. If you have ever paddled a canoe, chances are most of the basic skills will be familiar to you.

Some people love the idea of racing on their boards. Others love the idea of traveling over long distances as they move from one beach to another. You need to think about how you will use your board. While a racing version can be used to tour on it is generally better to pick a model that is designed for the use you have in mind.

An increasing number of people are performing yoga on their boards. This adds an extra level of difficulty to your yoga practice but it can be very relaxing. If you think this is something you will want to do, look for models that are wide and stable. Speaking with an expert can help you pick the right version for your needs.

If you lack space at home or think it will be difficult to carry your board you might want to consider a model that is inflatable. These models have come a long way and are available in both touring and racing varieties. They can be carried in a backpack or other bag and inflated right by the water. Once you have returned to land you can simply deflate them, pack them up, and carry them home with you.

Of course, a SUP isn't the only equipment you will need. You will need a paddle. A SUP paddle normally has a single blade and a long shaft. It is used on both sides of the board to move it. You may want to look at the different options to find one that is comfortable to use and hold. You will also need a tether to keep your SUP from floating away if you fall off and a life jacket or flotation device to keep you safe when you are out at sea.

One thing that can be helpful especially for a beginner is paddling lessons. You will learn basic strokes, how to get back up if you fall off, and other essential skills that will help you when you are out on your own.

Of course, if you find that the variety of options is too big for you to make a decision, there is an alternative to buying. Renting a SUP can allow you to try different models and will let you figure out which kind of SUP will meet your needs. It can also be a good idea to rent as part of a tour if you will be traveling to Maui as shipping a board can be very expensive.
