Here Is Why You Should Vacation At Playa Las Tortugas

By Steven Sanders

Mexico is a land renowned for its beauty, with many picturesque places dotting its provinces. One well known location is Playa Las Tortugas, or as many people may know it, Turtle Beach. The picture perfect beach is situated in the Mexican province of Nayarit.

The beach runs for an estimated distance of ten miles and was once part of a coconut plantation. Tourists often love it for its serene environment. There is a conservation camp for sea turtles in the area as well. If you are want to be actively involved in the conservation of the species, you might also want to pay it a visit.

Turtle beach is a thriving ecosystem that should be the dream of any nature enthusiast. A protected mangrove estuary that is located nearby is a thriving hub for birds, crocodiles and turtles. In general, the area gives one the rare opportunity to freely interact with both marine and land based wildlife. The beach is also a great place for leisure walking, horseback riding, swimming, surfing and kayaking.

If you love kayaking, you might want to try out some of the rental kayaks offered at the local shops. Most of the shops stock paddle boards, canoes and single person kayaks. Another interesting activity that visitors usually do whenever they are around is whale watching. Some tour agencies usually organize deep sea boat rides for this specific purpose.

The significant turtle population at the beach is what has largely contributed to its fame. There is a beautiful conservancy called the Platanitos Turtle Camp nearby. To get there, head as far north as you can on the beach. Sea turtles are bred in the camp and left to roam on their own upon hatching. The breeding period generally takes place from November to December. Tourists are at liberty to release the hatchlings into the water when the time comes. Few activities are as memorable as this.

All planes coming into the region land at the Puerto Vallarta Airport. The airport is located about 74 miles from Turtle Beach. It is important to note that the time zone changes upon landing. The time zone in Puerto Vallarta is Central Time. Once you reach the Nayarit region, your time zone will shift to Mountain Time. As such, you might want to adjust your watch accordingly.

Accommodation should be one of your key concerns when planning your trip. Luckily, there are lots of villas and hotels with pocket friendly rates around the area. Ensure you ask your tour company whether it will fully arrange for accommodation prior to traveling. Tourists with privacy concerns always choose to stay in villas. When it comes to villa selection, there are those built inside secluded gardens and they beach front types.

Just as it is with any other trip, advance planning is essential. You want to ensure your finances are in order before contacting a tour agency. Remember to inquire about essential items to include in your packing list.
