Monkey Safari In Borneo

By Jonny Blair

When you decide to head to Sabah, which is a Malaysian part of Borneo you will be sure to hear about the Proboscis monkeys and want to visit them and see them live in the jungle. This is the only place you can see them in their native habitat in the world so it is worth doing.

Organising the watching of these monkeys in Borneo can be easier than you expect.

You'll have guessed that Borneo has lots of jungles and therefore lots of tour companies organising these monkey trips (and Orang Utan ones). To book a trip to watch the proboscis monkeys, you are better to book it through a tour company. If you're staying in the city of Kota Kinabalu like me, just pop into one of the many tour operators in town and book it.

How much do you pay to watch these monkeys?

Generally it is around 60 Ringitts. This cost also included the fireflies, the transport to and from the hostel, the boats, afternoon tea and a full dinner. We also ate our breakfast at the hostel that day (included in our hostel price) but as it's all you can eat you can get by without eating anything else that day - the afternoon tea and evening dinner is enough.

How do you get to Klias Wetlands Park for watching Proboscis Monkeys in Borneo?

Transport was comfortable and efficient and all included in the tour. It was a small mini-bus we got. It took us from Kota Kinabalu to the venue.

It is an easy enough trip and the price is included. It is a fantastic thing to organise and everyone raves about it. Getting out there is also a beautiful trip as you venture through the jungles of rural Borneo - the Malaysian part.

What is watching Proboscis Monkeys in Borneo all about?

At the end of the tour you can also eat in a buffet dinner on the boat or by a restaurant beside the river. Overall, the monkey experience of Borneo is quite brilliant and worth travelling out to. You may never get another chance in life to see such curious wild monkeys in the wild. Have a safe and enjoyable trip out there everybody and happy travels to each and everyone of you.
