Las Vegas Excursions: Grand Canyon Bus Rides Through Christmas Holidays

By Belinda Shields

Vegas is a great place to celebrate the Christmas holiday, and one thing you may not realize is that's it's close to the Grand Canyon too, at only 120 miles away. A bus tour to the National Park would be a great way to spend a day with the family. Tours go to both the South Rim and the West Rim, so if you book soon, you could have a Christmas holiday like no other.

Bus tours operate throughout the season, including Christmas Day itself, but they fill up fast, so book soon if you want to go over Christmas.

Touring at the South Rim

The South Rim is farther away than the West Rim, at about 300 miles, so it takes about five hours to ride there on a bus. Even though it's a long trip, these tours are very popular because they are so scenic.

The South Rim tour will take you to Tusayan in Arizona. This small town is right outside the entrance to the National Park. Once there, you will have three hours to check out the scenery. Some of the highlights include Mather Point, Yaki Point, and of course there's the Grand Canyon Village. Arizona offers a different pace to West Rim, so if you're looking for something a little more intimate, then this tour could be for you.

Vegas Bus Tours To The West Rim

If you'd prefer a shorter ride, then you'll want to choose a West Rim bus trip since you can get there from Vegas in about 2 ? hours. Plus, you'll get to see Hoover Dam as your bus passes by it on the way to the Canyon.

You can choose a deluxe or basic tour. The cost of the tour includes most of your expenses, including breakfast. Having an all-inclusive ticket removes any guesswork from your budget.

Like the South Rim, you will have around three hours to explore the West Rim. There are plenty of walking tracks and vantage points, such as Guano Point and Eagle Point. The West Rim is the most popular Grand Canyon destination, so there are even attractions like the Skywalk. You could purchase a ticket for this platform, and step out onto a transparent floor that is 4000 ft. above the bottom of the canyon, and 70 ft. over the edge. It's an exhilarating experience, and one that you should not miss at the West Rim.

There are also helicopter options at the West Rim. One tour can take you down to the bottom of the Canyon, where you could take a boat tour along the river. With so much to see and do, and being so close to Las Vegas, it's no wonder that the West Rim is so incredibly popular.

You Want To Book Early

As already stated, these tours are very popular. They usually sell out in advance, so you need to book your tour in advance. Since Christmas in nearly here, you need to book now. It's convenient to buy your tour online with your credit card, plus you'll get the best rate that way and confirmation of your seats. Bus tours provide a full day of fun, so you'll want to set aside an entire day when you book your trip.

Remember that we're in the colder months, so dress warm, in layers. It will sometimes snow at the South Rim around this time of year, so check the weather before you travel, and dress appropriately.

Wrapping Up

Give you and your loved ones a special gift this Christmas. Book a scenic bus tour to the Canyon. From Vegas, you have access to the South Rim and the West Rim, and the sights at both areas are simply stunning. The West Rim is more suited to excitement, whereas the South Rim is more about the untouched and isolated natural beauty. Better hurry and pick your tour so you can book it online, that way you can lock in your seats on the perfect way to celebrate Christmas with your family.
