Getting To Know The Different Types Of Halibut Jigs

By Ruthie Livingston

Halibut is one of the biggest fishes you can find in the sea. It can grow up to 8 feet long and weighing up to 700 pounds. This is why thousands of people travel far and long just to catch it. Catching this enormous sea creature has never been easy because of its large size. However, the reward is sweet when you catch one because there is no better eating fish than this. It has a sweet flavor and ultra low fat content that is why many regarded it as an ultra healthy.

The most perfect time to embark on your ship and catch this varmint is from May until September. So if you are planning to go on a trip during those months, be sure that you have the right gears needed. One of the most important gears you should bring is the Halibut jigs.

Catching it can test your ability in fishing. It is such a fun and rewarding experience. So before you decide to embark on the yacht, always put game face on.

This essential gear in fishing has a hook attached to the sinker which is usually made of lead. A soft material is used to cover the body to interest it. It attracts attention by jerking in a vertical motion. Since it is specially designed for halibut fishing, the lark consists of durable materials. The larks can be used not only for seawater fishing, but also in freshwater.

There are different types of jigs that are ideal for catching different kinds of halibut. Let us take for example, you want to hook a pacific halibut this season. You must be familiar with the larks used in catching this kind of fish.

The lead headed ones with single tailed rubber grubs. Experts recommend using a rubber grub attached to a 24 ounce head made of lead. You can use a squid or octopus as a lure. Soak them well in fish oil or any forms of liquids to attract attention. It can be very fun due to the vicious attack to the jig. However, you need to be quick in tipping up the rod because the pacific halibut will immediately spit out the lark the moment it will realize that it is not real bait.

The stick or butterfly lark. This specie of fish has been known to viciously attack the butterfly lark with great force. Just like the technique in the lead headed ruse, the fisherman needs to quickly jerk the lure up and down to attract pacific halibuts. However, this type of technique is more productive in shallow waters.

The mudraker jig. This polished chrome plated ruse is perfect for bottom fishing. It can quickly sink into the waters despite strong tidal conditions. The ruse is scented so that it will be able to captivate the fish.

It feels so good and rewarding to catch a huge fish. Most fishermen take pride in catching one because it serves as their trophy. If ever you are interested, talk to people with more knowledge or be a member of a club in your area.
