Help Plan The Trip With A St John USVI Travel Guide

By Kathrine Franks

A trip to St. John U. S. Virgin Islands is a treat indeed for those who shun the big city while on vacation. A St John USVI travel guide can help plan the trip to this idyllic American territory. It just so happens that it is a highly-rated vacation spot for travelers from around the world. The guide is more than useful in achieving a great itinerary and in not missing some key sights. You will enjoy learning about West Indian culture while you savor local traditions and cuisine. No wonder the location is on many a travel wish list.

There is plenty to enjoy about the West Indian culture and the many local traditions. The lifestyle is colorful and laid back and the cuisine is divine. There is literally something for everyone. Some exploring before you go and after you arrive will reveal the island's gifts. You could not wish for better for an upcoming time away from home.

The rest of the time is also pleasant and visitors certainly go, but not in great numbers. During the shoulder season that surrounds the popular months, it is less crowded which is an advantage for those who like to do their water sports alone. No one really likes the heavy crowds on the beach.

Then there is the true off-season which is made up of the wet months of August, September, and October. If you hate rain, you must wait for early November. Also note that the hurricane season comes at this time between late summer and early fall.

It pays to know a bit about entry requirements before you take off for sun and sand. Visitors from the US do not need passports and they can fly direct or by connection through San Juan, Puerto Rico. The direct routes come from Miami, Detroit, Atlanta, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, and Washington DC. You land in either St. Thomas or St. Croix and then you can take the picturesque ferry to the area, which does not have its own airport.

Upon arrival, guests will enjoy a ferry boat ride to this area, as it has no local airport. This ferry can take them around the region including the British Virgin Islands. It is great fun and a solid tourist attraction. It has an ample schedule which is updated often. Listings appear in local magazines such as the St. Thomas/St. John This Week, which tourists can find at no charge around the area. Visitors also should not miss the lovely Virgin Islands National Park on St. John.

While you do not need a passport to visit, you will need certain vaccinations four to six weeks before your scheduled departure. They are routine in nature and do not cause concern. Details on the regulations surrounding immunization is available by contacting the number shown on the St. John US Virgin Islands website. As with any trip outside the US mainland, it pays to plan ahead.

With your guide in hand and these handy travel tips, your experience on St. John should be phenomenal. The locals are prepared to welcome you with open arms. It is sure to be a memorable honeymoon or vacation time. Safety, however, is an issue in some locations and it is advisable not to walk alone late at night.
