Seek Out The Rich Heritage Of British Columbia At Adventurous Places To Stay In Haida Gwaii

Though many have discovered the mystical place known as St. Charlotte Islands, the extra time and travel connections it takes to arrive there keeps this archipelago pristine and less traveled. For this reason, there is much to seek out and adventure to enjoy while visiting. Now, savvy travelers know to make arrangements for lodging and activities far in advance, as the chance to see the arts and culture of the ancient peoples that live there is a worth it.

There are certainly every kind of guest house, hotel, bed and breakfast, cabin and lodges that you might expect at larger tourist destinations, but simply not as many. Those that are available, however, are quaint, clean and as varied as their owners. This is not a common resort destination, but many of the amenities found at those are also available here. Within the range of these places to stay in haida gwaii, there is the chance to venture into the natural beauty this collection of islands offers, see the native artwork, and enjoy many outdoor activities.

The Haida Nation is the culture that has existed in this place for as long as perhaps the ice age. There are two distinct clans. These are the Ravens and the Eagles. Their oral traditions, stories, songs and artwork fill the area with beauty, so tourists hope to come and see these things. In addition to the cultural heritage dating back thousands of years, there is a rich abundance of sea and land activities that make this a worthy vacation destination. Planning a trip is best done keeping in mind what you want to see and do, as that is where you will want to make your reservations for lodging.

Many travelers make the journey with camping in mind. They hope to enjoy seeing things up close, and may have spent time on the road staying in other campsites along the way to this destination. There are seasonal places to stay. Beach adjacent sites are available for both tents and recreational vehicles. These are nice for people who come to beach comb and take side day trips.

In this area of the Pacific Northwest, salmon is king. Fishermen come from miles away to experience the power of sport fishing in the ocean or on the rivers. There are excellent lodges based along the bays offering guided day trips with expert assistants along to help visitors with their gear, tackle and bait. Appropriate clothing is also provided, and sturdy vessels with full crew and meals go out for over ten hours each day.

The small town that carries the name of the ship that brought those who would claim the islands for Great Britain is Queen Charlotte City. This is a great place to stay at bed and breakfast spots or small hotels. There are strikingly beautiful ocean views, with nice beaches and delicious farm fresh produce. Walking the local farmers market or farms is good for sight seeing, too.

Small guest houses and hotels are found in traditional Port Clemens, Masset, and Tlell. These are close to rain forest trails, beaches, and Haida artist studios.

Consider staying in secluded Sandspit on Moresby Island, where everything is rustic. Visit the Haida Heritage Center and Museum. Tour the Gwaii Haanas National Park for its flora and fauna. Go whale watching, surfing or hiking into the rain forests. Wilderness camping sites offer many glimpses into the magical areas of this treasured place.
