By Jony Mozen

Everybody looks forward to a comfortable retirement. Those are the years when one can finally relax and concentrate on those hobbies and activities for which there never seemed time before. A comfortable retirement requires careful planning, however. Millions of people suffer through their pension years because they simply did not plan and save. To retire in Florida is a life long dream of many couples.

There are many very good reason why this state is so attractive as a retirement destination. Of course, the weather is good all year round, even though it can get very hot in summer. There are numerous sites of astounding natural beauty, superb beaches and world class amenities. There are numerous retirement villages, allowing newcomers to quickly find suitable friends of their own age and with their specific interests.

One of the major reasons why older people flock to the Sunshine State for their retirement is the taxation policies of the state. There is no tax on personal income. This means that pensioners can rest assured that their entire incomes will remain intact for their personal use. Also, there are no death or estate taxes. For older people this means that their loved ones will inherit more and that they will not have to deal with complicated probate procedures.

Savings on taxes are not the only financial benefits enjoyed by citizens of this state. The cost of living is among the lowest in the United States. Pensioners enjoy many discounts at tourist attractions and businesses vie for the custom of the very large market segment consisting of pensioners. Some local authorities even offer pensioners discounts on public transport and free use of official amenities.

World class health care is another very important attraction for pensioners. The Sunshine State boasts many work class medical facilities. Many hospitals feature specialist units catering for those diseases and conditions often suffered by older people. Many general practitioners also focus on the treatment of conditions common to older people. This means that retired people can expect treatment by experienced practitioners.

Many pensioners have to manage their incomes very carefully and they are extremely vulnerable to sudden changes in the financial markets. The fact that the primary home of no resident of the Sunshine State may be attached by any creditor is a major source of comfort for those living with limited financial means. In this state not even a lien holder may attach the primary home of any citizen. No wonder a Florida retirement is so attractive to so many people.

The safety of citizens of this state is rated above average. The State is serious about crime prevention and visible policing is a serious priority. Many retirement village boast extended security features with armed guards, alarms and access control. This makes residents feel safe. They like the idea that they can walk on the streets, even at night.

There are certainly many reasons for retiring in Florida. A great combination of good weather, excellent tax benefits, a safe environment and a host of entertainment opportunities all work together to create the ideal environment for the pension years. There is no reason to believe that this state will not continue to be the retirement Mecca of the United States for years to come.
