The Quest Of Understanding How To Learn To Play Golf

By Patty Goff

Golf is a wonderful game that is popular and loved by both the young and the old. Golf is a great way to spend time outdoors having a great time in a tranquil setting. However, there are some that love the game, but simply don't know how to play it! How to learn to play golf has become a question for the lover of golf that wants to truly become a part of the sport.

Learning the basics of golf is the first step in learning how to play. Just as with any game, it is so important to know the objective. The players are determined to guide a ball into the holes that are on the course in a certain order using a metal club. There can be either nine holes that are played or eighteen. The last player that puts the ball in the whole ends the game. Results are then added up to determine the winner.

Learning how to keep score is also very important. Surprisingly, a low score in golf is a good score. Each player receives a point for each time they swing and hit the ball with their club. Therefore, the fewer swings a player takes and is able to get the ball into the hole, the more likely they are to win.

There are certain terms such as par, that are very important. Par is the assignment of the number of points attached to the hole. Once a golfer meets the point value, he is said to be "on par." Other terms that need to be learned are bogey, birdies, and a hole in one.

It's also wise to know the course, which usually consists of five parts. One of them is the tee box, where players first start off. Next is the fairway which is often located in the middle of the green and tee box. Putting greens are holes in which each fairway is located. Whereas the rough is the less-groomed area, and hazards are places that players don't want their balls to end up in such as sand and water.

Many first time players can't wait to get a club in their hands. Three types of clubs include the wood, iron, and putter. Each one has physical characteristics that make them useful and strategic for the player.

Standing properly often takes practice. There is power in knowing how to stand and where to stand. How a player swings can determine how far the ball will soar. The game begins when every player hits the ball out of the tee box. It is hoped that it lands on the fairway or green. Every player gets a chance to get their balls in the hole by following the starting order.

Golfing is somewhat dangerous, so golfers should stand away from the fairway as the player swings as to not get hit by a soaring ball. Each player must tally their scores for one hole, and then move on to the next. Golf rounds can last anywhere from three to five hour.
