I have to tell you about the story of my big day; when I got married to my husband. It was sunset and the tide was lapping in on golden sands. He held my hand and he added that second ring to my finger in Key West Florida at our beach wedding. I was absolutely overjoyed and overcome with emotion. This was especially shocking because to my mind, he hadn't seemed capable of the big romantic gesture that this was.
The day was perfect. Best of all, it was a total surprise. We had been engaged to be married for five years and frankly, I didn't expect him to come through on his promise to marry me. When you first get engaged, you wake up every day expecting your other half to pop the question. But then after a few years you begin to think it will never happen. Though my girlfriends nagged me to push him, I didn't want to.
And I'm glad I didn't. We were just going down south for a regular vacation, I thought. Some time in the sun. He hadn't indicated anything was up, until we got on the plane. Then casually as anything, he suggested we make it official.
I was both excited and concerned. Here was the man of my dreams asking me to marry him for sure, but the big day was going to be in someone else's hands. I shouldn't have been concerned. Had we as a couple had months to organize it, we could not have done a better job. Like I said, the surroundings were perfect and the staff did everything they could to make it ideal for me.
The fact is that it was so out of left field I didn't know what to think at first. When you poll most women the dream they had as a child would likely not be the sand between their toes and the sun setting. But it really works.
I was swept off my feet, and loved every minute of my big day. We had photographs taken to show to everyone when we came back Mr. and Mrs. Everyone was so jealous of the great weather, fantastic atmosphere and the sheer joy on our faces. That told the big story. We loved it.
Despite my fears, as he added that second ring to my finger in Key West Florida at our beach wedding, I knew that this was the man for me. He had made the right decision, and it was one which got our marriage off to the happiest, best start. Without a doubt, I would recommend it to everyone else.
