Best Walking Shoes-The Factors To Decide Their Worth

By Adam Torres

With the increase in health consciousness among people, more and more people are opting for walking as a simple yet effective exercise technique. Walking regularly not only keeps the body fit and strong but also helps to beat the mental pressure that gets accumulated as a result of hectic work schedule. However, all the benefits of walking can go in vain if not commenced by following the correct procedures. What matters the most in walking is the method in which you are walking, which in turn mostly depends on what you adorn on your feet.

While many elderly people resort to sandals or simple floaters for walking, it must be strictly avoided as walking in a wrong pair of shoes may eventually lead to leg and feet problems. Hence, you must always opt for shoes which have been specifically formulated and designed for walking.

Other than a proper fit, you must also look out for other characteristics and gather a thorough working knowledge about shoes before investing in one. Hence, if you are in a dilemma as to which shoe pair will be the ideal for you, read ahead to acquaint yourself with some of these important criteria you must religiously follow before buying a walking shoe.

Consider foot shape, size and fitting Since every person's feet have been differently created with a slight difference in shape as well, you should always consider the shape of your feet before trying or investing in any shoe. Ensure that your feet is getting enough space in the shoe to bend and twist easily. Never try to adjust your feet in a shoe by force. Rather, you should always opt for a pair which will allow you to feel natural and comfortable while wearing them. For instance, if you have broad toes, make sure that you opt for shoes which will provide you with enough space to accommodate you toes comfortably.

Try to avoid shoes which have a tendency to collapse over your toes while walking. This is because, shoes which rub constantly against your toe or nails will eventually make you go through feet problems like blisters, callouses and hammertoes.

A proper fit and comfortable wear will not only let you walk faster and properly but will also keep you miles away from aggravated foot problems like callouses, hammertoes, blisters and bunions.

Flexibility Flexibility of the shoe is yet another criterion that you must prioritize in a walking shoe. Walking shoes must be extremely flexible, to allow the feet adjust itself to the nature of the terrain while walking. Since our feet roll and bend from the toes to the heels while walking, it is better to opt for shoes which are provided with an additional support at the heels, like a roll bar. The roll bar is situated in the mid-sole and helps to stabilize the feet while walking and flexing.

Material Walking shoes are mostly made of leather, mesh, nylon and other synthetic material. While leather shoes often provide better support, you can expect to get a more breathable shoe that has been crafted out of mesh or synthetic.
