By Andrea Davidson

Whenever people are travelling, one thing that friends and relatives always ask them to do once they find out where they are going to is to come back with a souvenir. Therefore, when someone is going to a vacation in Texas, they will have to come back with several great souvenirs to please everyone. Here are a number of ideas on top Texas souvenirs to purchase.

A shirt with the state name printed on it is one popular gift to comeback with from a visit in the area. Whether a plain T-shirt or a jersey, most people who cannot travel for whatever reasons cannot get an opportunity to purchase such merchandise. Other things with the state name printed on them, such as plates, pepper and salt shakers and ashtrays are very popular gifts. Gift shops are usually fully stocked with scarves, plates, bandanas, caps and many other trinkets printed the state name.

However, the gifts do not necessarily have to bear the name Texas. It can have the picture of something that is a trademark to the state, a one-time event, or the name of a famed town such as El Paso. When travelling to the state, one can take pictures of Corpus Christi, the Astrodome in Houston, The Alamo as well as any other historic site.

Brochures from the area depicting special concerts, local events, specific tours and area attractions and such can form ideal scrap book items. The same case applies to copies of newspapers, menus, ticket stubs, books with topics about the area, and receipts for purchases. Small collectibles with a large star, a photo of the state map, and other recognizable Texan emblems are ideal gifts for virtually anyone. Such collectibles may include key rings, small flags, coffee mugs, book markers, magnets and bumper stickers.

There are a number of spicy foods that the state is known to serve. Gift baskets containing Texan cuisine, chili mix, salsa from the south, hot sauce and barbecue sauce are nice souvenirs or gifts for anyone who loves to eat them.

One-of-a-kind gifts such as sunglasses with the shape of the area, Texan toilet papers, beer can clocks, and plaques with Texan sayings are rare and whimsical. An ordinary person is unlikely to find such items anywhere else. Things that cannot be found anywhere else across the globe are definitely ideal gifts.
