By Julie Bauernschmitd

Visa is a documentary proof used to get the entry to foreign countries which is provided by the government of the particular country. The pupils who wish to study their higher education in United States must have F1 Visa. F type visa is required for the residents of US to studying the country. Only US embassies give these kinds of permissions. I-20 form should be collected from the college in which the student is willing to take the admission.

The applicants must be able to show their capacity to support their stay in U. S. This report of economic stability is required because U. S government does not allow such permission holders to work on legal jobs or the options are limited. F2 visas are provided to the dependents of F1 holders. These dependents are not permitted to work in any jobs during their stay.

Minor children of these dependents can attend public schools during their stay. There are 3 types in this F series. One and two are as described above and the last one is F3 visas which are provided to border commuters, these are provided to Mexican and Canadian citizens only. You must reside in your own country and while attending school in U. S to get this third kind of permission.

Canadian and Mexican students were treated as visitors on earlier days. Attack of September 11 changed everything and F3 concept was brought into existence. Full time students of foreign origin are permitted to work for 20 hours a week within the campus and they are not supposed to leave the campus for work.

Citizenship and immigration services can grant off-campus permission after reviewing the application. Students shall be permitted to work off-campus as practical training. In the year 2008 a law regarding this was introduced which allows technical students to work for 29 months on off-campus jobs. This law also states that the student under this program should not be unemployed longer than 90 days.

F1 holders are not subjected to Insurance Contribution act taxes. This exemption is applicable for first five years of time period. But the local and other applicable federal taxes shall not be relieved. Income tax filing of such students should be filed with non resident 1040NR and 1040NR-EZ tax forms. This criterion is applicable if their stay is narrower than 5 years. Rules are different based on country of origin of the immigrant.

The applicant must meet all the requirements of US immigration and national act to study in US. The applications are verified and permissions are granted by consular officer. After completion of education the student should be prepared to depart from the country. To study in US the applicant must show the financial status to bear the expenses while stay.

F1 Visas are for students and the applicant should get all the required documents and admission letter from the university. The decision of the consular officer depends on some predefined criteria. The applicant should comply with all these guidelines then his application will be considered.
