Prepare For The Moving Correctly

By Sharonne Penickata

While you are packing up for the move to take place, you will realize that your property is beginning to get overwhelmed with boxes. Before the representatives arrive to offer you moving quotes, it could be beneficial for you to relocate as many of those early boxes as possible to a temporary holding location.

Discovering these temporary holding locations can be a struggle at times. In order to find a place to store your items before the move, you have to show just a little creativity. In case your new home is close enough that you could make a handful of early trips for the area, then this process can save you big money on your moving costs.

You need to locate a place where you can store your items safely. When you have any family or trusted friends residing in the region, start by asking if you're able to borrow some room in their garage or basement for a couple of weeks. People who know you well in many cases are prepared to loan you some space.

Make sure that you understand the person well, however. Finding a partner on Craigslist or asking this favor of a chat room buddy won't cut it. You stand the potential risk of piling your boxes inside their garage, after which coming back to find your boxes all missing or rummaged through. It's always best to be sure you know this individual well enough you could trust them to not make off with your belongings while your back is turned.

Unless you know anyone inside the immediate area who would be ready to let you park several things for two weeks, think about renting a storage unit instead. Most likely there exists a storage unit for sale in the area which will meet your needs. You may also make the arrangements to rent the unit before you drive down to sign the paperwork.

Look up storage unit or storage rental on a search engine, and call the offered numbers to confirm availability. For your household needs, a tiny unit should suffice, unless you are planning to move furniture ahead of time too. While you're on the telephone, ask about the protection features that the facility provides. For top security, you will want a secured location that restricts access to the public after hours. Make sure to bring your own lock. A single month of rent at one of these units is an inexpensive method to move items early.

No matter what location you get choosing, it could be worth renting a self moving truck over a weekend prior to the movers arrive to acquire a number of the stuff that you already have boxed up out of your house. Relocating a truck load of breakables and unneeded items that you already have boxed up ahead of time will not only free up more space to pack what's left in your home, but lower the expense of your move as well.
