Ways To Accomplish Custom Painting Of Motorcycles

By Tamera Keith

The dents in your motorcycle that has caused you concern can be removed by custom painting Scottsbluff. The dents and crack are normal results of constant wear and tear due to usage. Many expert body painters can do the restoration job easily and make the bikes shine like new.

New bikes are painted a standard design before it goes out of the assembly line. Some owners who wish to personalize their vehicles modify or erase the coating completely and replace it with their own choice of colors and design. Customizing a bike can be done in a professional shop or by the owner themselves.

The equipment needed for a painting job include an air hose, a respirator, a compressor, and air regulators. You will also need two paint guns, a speed polisher, and a buffing compound. Putty, primer, and sand paper is also needed. You also have to choose your base coatings that match your design and the clear coat for final coating.

Choose an area in your garage or storage where you can work on the bike without being disturbed. Prepare the location for the painting project. Cover the walls with plastic or tarp to protect it from being coated. Install adequate lighting so you can work nights. The right amount of illumination will also help you complete the proposed design more closely.

To protect your health, provide enough ventilation by installing additional fans for exhaust and proper air circulation besides opening the windows and doors. Do not perform the painting job in an air conditioned room. Aside from ventilation, the fans can also help make the coat to dry faster.

The supplies should all be available from the local hardware supply store. You can also obtain the equipment from the same place. Add the respirator with a filter in the inventory to be used as emergency tool if the paint fumes got very concentrated.

Detach from the bike the parts that you wish to repaint. These are often the front and back fenders and the gas tank. Using sandpaper or sandblasting, remove all the old coating and wipe the surface. Make sure that all the colors are gone before applying the new coating. Repeat the sanding until all the residue is gone. Wipe the surface again with cloth.

If there are any dents on the parts, utilize the filler putty and let it dry. Utilize sandpaper to remove excess filler and again create a smooth surface. Repeat the filling and sanding process for all dents and cracks. Using a spray gun, apply two separate coats of epoxy as primer for your base paint. Use black color to reveal dented areas. Utilize a flowing putty mixture to fix the damage.

Apply another primer coat and let dry, after which sand again to smooth the surface. Use another coating gun to apply the paint for the base color. Make thin layers so it will dry quickly. Apply at least three coats for each color. When the base has dried and all the areas of the motor parts are stained according to design, apply the clear color to protect the base. Even out the surface using sandpaper. After completing the custom painting Scottsbluff, utilize a speed polisher to achieve mirror smoothness.
