Make The Most Of Your Off Road Experience With ATV Lift Kits

By Madeline Finch

Most who drive an all terrain vehicle do so in search of a more thrilling adventure off the beaten path. While they do not necessarily seek out extreme rough areas, they do want to be able to travel on unkempt pathways to more remote areas. While they are made for off road experiences, ATV lift kits ensure a more hassle free experience.

Just as with hiking through the wilderness, off road driving is a combination of using existing trails and the gamble that the visibly flat area one wishes to traverse is flat enough and without obstacles too significant to navigate. Considering the many things demanding the attention of a driver, making those decisions on the fly can be challenging. Making a mistake could result in damage to the equipment which ends the adventure on the spot.

Driving is rife with opportunities to fail, even on smooth roads, but in the backwoods on must be prepared. Mountain bikes are made strong to withstand more punishment, as are all terrain vehicles. But there are always things one ought consider to give an even greater advantage or precaution to the savvy rider.

At issue is the plethora of things which stick out of the ground in unprepared pathways in excess of the clearance between the underside of a vehicle and the obstacle. When traveling of open ground, straddling a rock or stump is often unavoidable, but if one underestimates the height of the object, there can be problems. There are a number of vital working parts underneath which are vulnerable to impact and to accumulated muck when traveling in muddy areas.

Therefore in order to increase the displacement, something has to be done to make more space for the larger diameter wheels. There are two ways to increase the space for larger wheels, a body lift and a suspension lift. The body type is the simpler method, as it places spacers which raise the frame above the chassis providing more tire room.

To use the really big tires and maximize the topographic clearance, one needs to work to get both the chassis and frame moved up. This will take significantly more effort and expertise, and is not for the novice. The resulting increase, however, makes the experience off the beaten path more enjoyable, and lessens the risk of bottoming out or damaging critical components.

The biggest concern is that raising a vehicle changes the center of gravity, and therefore means the driver will have to take greater care around turns. It also means that in certain high angle terrain conditions, the propensity to overturn is increased. Experienced off road drivers should not have too much difficulty accommodating the modification, but novices would do well to stick with factory stock models.

Almost anyone who has decided to purchase an all terrain vehicle has off road adventures in mind. Just how far off the beaten path one decides to explore is a personal decision, but having the greatest terrain clearance possible is always a good idea. No longer must one build something for themselves, in fact purchasing quality ATV lift kits is the smart and safe way to get the advantage.
