Things To Do In Oahu

By Harry Wilson

Oahu has been one of the top destinations in the world for a long time. Its gorgeous scenery and perfect climate make it a great place to spend a tropical vacation. Be aware though, if you are looking for something that is a slower pace and far away from society, then Oahu is not the place for you. Oahu is by far the busiest island in Hawaii and some find it to be too busy. However, it really depends on what you are looking for in your vacation. If you would like some variety like sun bathing, hiking, surfing, shopping and fine dining; then Oahu is the place for you. There is so much to do in Oahu that you could go numerous times without seeing everything. You can spend the day shopping then drive up to the North Shore to watch the surfers and night and enjoy a nice quiet glass of wine while watching the sunset.

Probably the most well liked tourist destination on Oahu might be the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC). The PCC can be described as big "living museum" which uses up just under 50 acres in the vicinity of Oahu's North Shore. Within, you will find villages that symbolize daily life from 8 islands located in Polynesia. Personnel re-create day-to-day lives upon each of these small islands by demonstrating crafts and arts from all of these exceptional locations. It's actually a great spot to spend an afternoon with your family and ensure to stay late to attend their world famous luau and feast. You do have to pay more to attend the luau, but you will feel it was well worth it.

The Dole Plantation is also a popular attraction where over one million people visit every year! Climb aboard the Pineapple Express and take a narrated tour around the plantation. This scenic ride showcases the magnificent beauty that is the North Shore. If you are up for some family fun, check out the World's Largest Maze. This maze is made from over 14,000 pineapple plants and covers three acres. Don't forget to also visit the gift shop and try some Dole frozen yogurt. Perfect on those hot Hawaiian afternoons.

If you love the beach and snorkelling you will absolutely love Hanauma Bay! People from all over the world come here to snorkel. The bay is surrouned by three sheer cliffs that keep the water calm and perfect for swimming. You will see tons of colorful tropical fish, octopus, sea turtles and of course coral reefs. When you want to relax, the beach is also amazing, providing you with gorgeous views and sun. Make sure to take your camera!

Obviously, you will also want to visit Waikiki Beach. This world-renowned beach is a sun-lovers paradise. Whether you are into swimming, sunbathing or reading, this beach is perfect. It's also a great place to people watch. You can easily spend your whole vacation here, but make sure to see the rest of this gorgeous island.

This is just a small sampling of the diverse things you can do on the island of Oahu. There are so many cool things you can do on Oahu and the other Hawaiian Islands. If you want to get the most out of your trip, do some research and find out all you can about the attractions in Oahu. Making a list of ones you "must see" will make your trip a lot easier.
