The month of Feb is the most enthusiastically awaited holiday of the year in the Dominican Republic. Carnaval is the biggest and most colorful event that occurs among all of the other vacations. In Santiago, the Carnival first began in 1867. This is an important time when Dominicans attend parties, take part in parades, wear outfits, go dancing in the street, eat and drink and have lots of fun with locals and tourists alike.

Each Sunday in February Carnival happens in la Vega, Monte Cristi, Santo Domingo and San Cristobal. At times folks can go OTT with these parties. As an element of the gigantic parties, people dress in decorative costumes and masks and hit each other with inflated pig and cow bladders. In Santo Domingo, in the week of Carnival, there are multitudes of almost 100,000 folk. This would be a glorious time to line up one of those holidays to Dominican Republic to catch the custom of Carnival week!

The most generally recognised mask of the Carnival, which is named the Diablo Cojuelo Mask, had its origins in Santo Domingo and La Vega. The custom of the Carnaval called "Puerto Plata" is that the Diablo Cojuelo, or horned devil, lashes out at all who take part in this event with an inflated cow bladder so as to purge the sins from the spectators.

There are several parties that occur throughout the year in the country of the Dominican Republic. Visitors are always warmly welcomed to play a role in these holidays. This Caribbean country is legendary for its music and colourful holidays that attract visitors from every part of the globe.
