Travel and Vacation Advice

By Olivia M Darlington

To help give you piece of mind when travelling by car, you should look at purchasing a roadside assistance plan. If your car should get stuck, you now have someone to call when there is nobody around to help. Most plans are fairly inexpensive and will help pay for itself if you ever need assistance.

If you are planning on a really remote and exotic trip of a lifetime, consider purchasing an insurance that will cover emergency evacuation, rescuing and search. The farther from civilization you plan to be, the more grateful you will be to have this type of insurance.

Europe is not the only place to travel by hopping a train. Think of traveling the U.S. or Canada by train or bus as an option, as well. In the United States, trains shuttle north and south of the Eastern Seaboard daily and can be a very convenient and quick way to travel.

Have someone pick up your mail and newspapers while you travel. A full mailbox and a pile of newspapers is a big sign that a home's owners are away. Have a friend or family member pick up these theft beacons and ensure you do not come back to a ransacked home.

If you have decided to travel by plane you should be sure to bring some chewing gum with you on the plane. One of the most uncomfortable parts of a flight is on takeoff and landing when the air pressure changes. It can really hurt your ears. Chewing gum can keep it from getting painful.

Traveling by bus with children can be a trying experience, but you can make it easier by being prepared for boredom, snack attacks and other potential circumstances. Bringing along some travel games and coloring books and crayons are great ways to keep both younger and older children occupied. If you travel overnight rather than during the day, a young child is likely to sleep through most of the trip. Pack a snack bag with food and beverages for each child. Give your children the opportunity to stretch their legs by getting off the bus during brief stops.

Allow time in your travel plans for diversion. When you are planning events and activities during your trip, separate some of these plans with an hour or two gap in between. This allows for extra time at an event or the opportunity to explore some of the local scenery that you might not see otherwise.

Now that you've armed yourself with some insight and information, you're ready to venture in a relaxed and informed manner. Stay alert, and at the same time remember to relish the experience of meeting new people and embracing new cultures. Try these tips and you can be confident and enjoy the trip.

One type of trip you may have not planned before is a 'glam-ping' trip. This is a trip where you stay in tents but they are built with luxury specifications and already erected when you arrive on site!
