Tips On Looking At Horses For Sale

By Thelma Kent

There is a huge variety of horses for sale Colorado area. Purchasing a horse is a huge decision that needs a sensible approach. Horses can be wonderful companions, hard workers and can let you experience the countryside and exercise in a whole new way. IT is also a big investment, and going forward will also be costly, and needs to be considered very carefully.

Getting the best horse depends on how they'll live. A show horse is dramatically different from one for eventing; one to help kids learn to ride is not the same as a ranch worker. Never rely on falling in love with a creature and its looks alone.

Whether you buy at market, auction or via the internet, there are questions that need asking. Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous sellers. Look at many horses. Ensure you're buying a good horse in great condition by running through the following important points:

It's important to know medical issues with any mare, gelding or stallion. Ask about history of lameness, floating teeth or foundering. Know why the horse is being sold, and how long it's been with the owner. It is also important to know to what extent it has been socialized and who rides it.

Assessing a horse in person is vital, especially if this is your first horse. Watch the owner of the horse, and how the two interact. Take note of any excessive bobbing of the head, swishing of the tail or pinned ears. These can indicate problems.

Let the owner ride first and watch. When searching for horses for sale colorado region, look out for signs of an unhappy horse or bad attitude. Watch the full range of motion - walking, trotting, cantering and galloping. Look how well it responds to commands. If you're in doubt as to the horse's safety or the owner's control, just walk away.
