By Heather Toms

Surely you have been to a few summer camps. You get to meet a ton of new folk who share your cabin, your dinner table and your day's activities with you as you freak around doing whatever it is your camp organizers have organized for all of you. You'll do some swimming, some canoeing and some games. During the day, you are on a regimented schedule, and your evenings are free. Perhaps you have attended camps that have a different kind of purpose, like career camps. Organisations like the Kiwanis sponsor youngsters to go to camp, and there are camps for the physically and mentally challenged and for Special Olympians. These camps can be life-changing, because they offer handicapped people opportunities that they might otherwise not ever be able to take advantage of.

Summer camps with a pony trekking theme can also be a life enhancing experience for you.

Horse riding summer camps are conducted practically everywhere internationally. Some camps have phases for different age groups; for example, they may take campers only between 7 to 11 years of age for the 1st week, then ages 12 to 15 for the second week and so on. Other camps accept all ages for the entire season, but have different activities for different age groups. Some camps concentrate on families, others on honeymooners.
