Go Mountain Bike Riding In The Sunny Weather In Sedona AZ

The mild weather in Sedona AZ permits outdoor activities throughout the year. It is often called 'Red Rock Country' and with good reason. Coffeepot, Thunder Mountain and Cathedral are names of strikingly beautiful monoliths of orange to red sandstone. This particular rock formation is only found in this area. North of the city, Oak Creek Canyon is another wild but fascinating gorge.

Sedona is 4,500 feet above sea level. It lies in the Upper Sonoran Desert area in northern Arizona. There are a number of State Parks which are perfect for family outings. The mild climate persists throughout the year.

Summer temperatures average 97o Fahrenheit (34o Celsius). July has the highest temperatures but there are art galleries and museums to visit. A number of musical and theatrical events are also held. During the same period, the average low temperature reach a comfortable 64o Fahrenheit or 17o Celsius.

The various State parks lend themselves to exploring. Favourite pastimes include hiking, bide-riding, fishing and picnicking. Over 300 species of bird pass through each year attracting many bird-watchers. The inquisitive cactus wren is Arizona's state bird and often makes its nest in the Saguaro cactus. This cactus only blooms at night. It is found in the wild only in the Sonoran Desert.

The nights can get a bit nippy in winter with January lows reaching 31oF or -1oC. December and January are the only months with average lows below freezing. The days are still pleasant for getting out and about with average highs of 57oF (14oC). The annual precipitation is 19 inches with some rain falling throughout the year. Only May and June receive an average of less than an inch. August has the highest number of days with rain (8.6) followed by July (7.7) then March (6.9).

With such mild conditions all year round there are really no restrictions on any activities. The weather in Sedona AZ will not preclude you from any of the many activities available. There are a number of bike trails and day-use camp sites. Horseback tours are available. Annual cultural events include Jazz, Bluegrass and Film Festivals.
