Saint Basil's Cathedral in Moscow

After the fall of the communist ruling western culture and social richness entered into Russia at a greater pace. A unique combination of past historic monuments along with most modern life styles are seen everywhere. Red Square is one of the best places to visit in this great nation.

Among all the famous tourist spots in Moscow Red Square is the main hot spot for tourists. Earlier it was a slum but now it is considered as the most happening place in the town. In the Russian language Red square has two different meanings. Red square denotes beautiful as well as a color, which is blood red. The name of this place is associated with the history. In the reign of Ivan this place was a victim of great bloodshed.

St. Basil's Cathedral is one of Russia's most impressive sites. The large cathedral contains nine smaller cathedrals within it. Legend has it that Ivan the Terrible ordered that the eyes of the architects be burned out so that it would be impossible for them ever creates something of such beauty again. This stunning cathedral is a foremost example of Russian architecture. The eyes of its visitors to the building are drawn its onion-shaped domes and stunning colors.

The building, which was built in the year 1552 to capture Tartar, has in each of the interior nine cathedrals, an onion colored dome. The bright colors and decorative works of art inside the decor make it splendid and the most recognized cathedral in the whole world. The surprising fact is that the site was designed from Biblical interpretation. The architect, Postnik Yakovlevver has actually translated the vision of John who describes in the book of Revelation, of the New Jerusalem coming down to earth.

There are many other things to see in Red Square, such as Lennon's tomb. While there are historical elements, there is also a major shopping center with European fashion and Western influence. Visiting today it is hard to fathom that this was once a place where many lost their lives and great blood was shed. Today, it is still used as Russia's main marketplace. It is not uncommon to see people buying and selling goods, shopping for clothes and enjoy a day with family and friends.

There are many things to see when visiting Russia and the Red Square is one of them. The famous cathedral in Red Square, which was built as a prison, has caused a man his eyesight. Many are stunned when they see this beautiful building, which was used once for a dreadful purpose. Today the building stands as the remnant of the beautiful interpretation by Postnik Yakovlev of John the Revelator's vision.

Saint Basil's Cathedral is an area that one must visit, when visiting this area. For years to come one could share the pictures with family and friends.
