Luxurious Train Trips On A Honeymoon Holiday

By Arthur Albao

Walking on a remote beach in South Africa and engaged couple came across another couple. The four fell into friendly conversation during which it was mentioned that the engaged pair had not yet decided in a honeymoon venue. Excitedly the other couple mentioned luxury train travel. They had completed three trips and had nothing but praise for the experience.

With the prospect of a honeymoon trip in the offing the older couple were keen to encourage others to enjoy the experience They were members of a club, full of enthusiasm and information. They discussed, available routes, prices and whether the mode of travel had anything to offer above other honeymoon options.

The engaged couple asked for more information on the actual experience of a luxurious rail trip. They were told of the thrill of setting out from Pretoria's Capital Park railway museum by steam engine. It did not stay with them long before they were switched to diesel electric haulage. The facilities for re-fueling and taking on water no longer permit the extended use of steam on rail networks. With a diesel electric engine taking over, they headed for the Lowveld.

The train drops down from Pretoria at 1350 meters above sea level to the Kruger National park at only 260 meters altitude. The sun glints on rails so that they seem like silver lines threaded along the sides of mountain escarpment. The Kruger National Park is an area the size of Israel populated by elephants, Giraffe, Zebra and thousands of other extraordinary plant and animal species.

The couple spoke of their enjoyment of the company they met on the train. Most were from foreign countries such Germany, Japan or England. It was possible for passengers to chat to each other as they sat in the restaurant, the bar or the observation car. However, if they wanted privacy they have the option to retire to their comfortable cabin where a double bed, cool showers and soft linen cocooned their privacy.

There are well trained staff on the trains. The cuisine is is world class and one of the major pleasures available, together with an excellent selection of local wines. The cleaning staff keep the period carriages spotlessly clean so that passengers have the experience of pristine history as it may have been when it was originally made.

The couples parted. As the engaged couple moved on they resolved to explore the company's web site. They had been told to search there before booking luxury train travel online. At least eight options would be available to them, though they had already half decided, from what the club members had told them, on the trip from Pretoria to Cape Town, ending their trip with a stay in a five star guest house. From there they could explore the Mother City.
