Top Destination Wedding Ideas

By Kim Staunton

If you want to do something a little different to celebrate your wedding, then maybe a destination wedding is the solution. Destination weddings used to only be within the financial scope of the truly wealthy. However, over the last couple of decades the prices have reduced and now some destination weddings can cost the same as, or sometimes less than a traditional wedding.

Taking into account that the average wedding in the U.S. is around the $25,000 mark, the chances are you can arrange a brilliant destination wedding and keep within the budget. The great thing is, it's likely your destination wedding is also the place you want to spend your honeymoon, so you are already in situ and the two can be arranged at exactly the same time. This takes away the additional stress of arranging your honeymoon when you already have a million other things to sort out.

The important part about arranging a destination wedding is getting it planned far in advance. The first thing you need to do is work out where to go and what the cost is. The second thing is to decide on your guest list. Although, you can ask your guests to contribute to the cost, it really is best if you include these costs in your budget. If you need to cut down the list so the expenditure falls within your budget then cross off any extended relatives that you rarely see, or acquaintances that you haven't seen for years.

If you decide on a destination wedding, then it's imperative you or a professional wedding arranger sort out everything. This is particularly relevant regarding arrangements for your guests. Don't leave them to make their own travel arrangements, or book hotels; it won't work and you will end up trying to sort out those guests that can't get it correct.

Booking the wedding as a package means that everything is arranged together. You can do a block booking for the travel arrangements and the hotel and most hotels will arrange everything for the ceremony and the reception afterwards so all you need to do is tell them your requirements. If you use the services of a wedding planner, then they will arrange everything so you can concentrate on yourselves.

Your destination wedding doesn't need to be in the U.S., but remember if you choose to fly guests overseas they will all need valid passports, and this may present an extra problem for you. Popular overseas wedding destinations that provide all the services you need for a great wedding include; Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America. Further afield are places like Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

However, if the thought of an overseas wedding and the potential problems of guest's passports concern you the U.S. has some perfect places. Hawaii, for example, is the top destination both for weddings and for honeymoons, although there are many more places. The weather is great all year round and you get the feel of being abroad, when you are still within U.S. jurisdiction.
