Tips for Decorating Your Home For Thanksgiving

By Jazon Tao

There are many ways to add a seasonal theme to your house. Here are some tips to help decorate your home for Thanksgiving 2011:

1 Assemble a fall-inspired centerpiece. You can simply have a straw basket with apples and pears in the middle of the table, perhaps tied with twine. It’s simple but attractive and easy to do, plus the fruits will definitely make a nice snack or an accompaniment to dessert. This also means you won’t have a centerpiece that you’ll have to put away and which will take up storage space.

2. It is a good idea to use colors consitant with the fall season. Do you know the colors related to Thanksgiving? Shades like brown and tan, orange and burnt orange, and cream to good choices. Use these colors in various decorative elements like your candles, your tablecloth and napkins and dinner plates.

3. Cut out the shapes of leaves from brown, yellow, and orange art paper then write a letter on each of them. The leaves could spell out “Happy Thanksgiving”, “Be Thankful”, or “Gratitude” once they’re linked with each other and strung up on your walls, across your picture window, or across your fireplace.

4. Outdoor items can also be used inside your home as decorations. There are lots of things you can find around your home or local area that will remind you of Thanksgiving such as staw, pine cones, dried flowers and twigs. These fall elements can be used to provide a seasonal look to your home either as part of your centerpiece or other decorative elements.

5. A popular decoration idea for Thanksgiving is the use of candles. They come in all shapes, sizes and scents so with a bit of thought, you should be able to find ones that fit right into your home design. The scent of a candle can also be used to good effect with smells such as Cinnamon giving your home a nice Thanksgiving aroma. Candles are also often used to set the mood at the Thanksgiving dinner table. A few correctly placed candles can make the evening relaxing and ward.
