What Is A Premium Class Airline?

By Ramon van Meer

Premium class airlines, also referred to as business class only or all-business class airlines, are airlines that are configured entirely into a business enterprise or initial class arrangement. You can find no economy class seats on these airlines. Premium class airlines are common with the enterprise sector as the check in times are quicker and you're flying in an aircraft configured for small business.

Concorde - The Concorde was the original premium class airline. The Concorde was the very first supersonic passenger airline and operated a commercial service for 27 years from 1976 to 2003. It cut a 7 hour transatlantic flight to just three along with a half hours. It was a lot more pricey (and much noisier) than conventional aircraft so the supersonic aircraft didn't make economic sense for commercial airlines to purchase. Air France and British Airways operated services with government subsidized aircraft.

As the aircraft had such a tiny fuselage the seats had been not the luxurious kind identified in organization and first class at this time. The seats had been set in 2x2 configuration and were about the identical size as today's economy seats. There was little room for carry on luggage also. What the Concorde lacked in space, it made up for in service and speed. Ticket costs ensured exclusivity to enterprise people plus the super rich.

The Concorde operated its last flight in 2003. The Air France crash in 2000 along with the downturn within the aviation industry following the terrorists attacks of September 11 2001 had been aspects in BA and Air France ending their Concorde services.

Airlines are also searching beyond the traditional US-EU markets, with potential within the massive economic capitals of the Far East like Shanghai and Tokyo, or the emerging financial capitals of Dubai.
