Travel on a Budget without Making these Mistakes

By Gavin Caleb

Budget travelers are increasing by the minute. More and more people are getting into the bandwagon of shoestring traveling because of all the perks that come with it. The best perk is of course to enjoy a vacation without having to spend a lot. Of course, like with any other good thing, this one has some drawbacks too that you need to keep an eye on if you don't want to end up having a disastrous vacation. Here are some tips on how to keep things right during your budget travel.

Trading safety or cleanliness for a cheap hotel price

When looking for a hotel, it's okay to sacrifice small things to cut down the price. For example, you might opt to get a smaller room or a room without a flat screen TV just to pay less. That's all right. But never sacrifice safety or cleanliness for this. If you're reading online reviews and you find out that the hotel is plagued with bed bugs or the rooms are unbearably smelly, don't take the risk and go find something better. If you find out that the overly cheap hotel you're thinking of booking is located in a shady part of the city, don't endanger your safety to save cash. You might end up losing even more money when you get mugged or get hospitalized after catching a disease.

Under packing to travel light

Some airline tickets that are of discounted rates don't allow as much baggage weight as regular plane tickets. This is why, many tourists make the mistake of under packing and then ending up buying clothes or things in the vacation destination, which costs them more in the long run. There's nothing wrong with packing light but you must not under pack. There's a big difference between the two. With the former, you are able to bring all the things that you need by employing some creative tactics such as packing multi-purpose items or including clothes that are easy to wash. The latter, meanwhile, means packing insufficiently for the trip.

Going during off peak season

It's a common advice for budget travelers to go travel during the off-peak season. And that's actually a very good way to save money. But what some people do wrong is that they go to the place at the wrong time. For example, if you're planning to have a beach vacation, it's not a good idea to book your flight during the winter just so you can save money. How can you expect to have fun at the beach when you're shivering cold? It's all right to avoid the peak season like the summer or spring break, but at least schedule your vacation during a time when the sun is out to shine on you.

Getting the cheapest travel insurance

Visitor medical insurance or visitors health insurance is essential to any trip. While it would be smart to shop around to find good rates, it's a bad idea to get the cheapest in the market that doesn't have sufficient coverage. Be sure to get a plan that has everything you need to be covered for your trip.
