Spend a while with us this summer in Sheridan Wyoming and you'll soon learn we're so much more than a Wild West city. Within a fairly short drive of this town of sixteen thousand people in the Big Horns you will find summer fun in every flavour.

Sheridan Outside Adventures

Did we mention the Big Horn Mountains? With peaks from 5 to 13 thousand feet, they offer challenges for the most trail-hardened mountain biker. Seasoned riders should without a doubt try the Tongue River Shuttle, a crazy eleven-mile downhill race alognside the brook.

Anglers will find their thrill in mountain lakes boasting brook and golden trout in fantastic cool, clear waters. 1 or 2 lakes and brooks dot the mountains, including gorgeous Big Horn Reservoir and Clear Creek, also valued by kayakers.

If northeastern Wyoming does not make you think about golf, you might want to rethink. Early immigrants from Scotland brought their passion for the game with them, and the area surrounding Sheridan has 4 beautiful courses to conquer. Powder Horn Golfing Club's mountain course is a specific favorite among the locals.

Those preferring to walk sans a golf bag can follow tree-lined course for miles through Big Horn State Forest. For notable multi-day walks, plan some time for the Edelman or Paint Rock Trails. You will find stunning mountain camping areas along most tracks, so be sure to pack your bed roll and prepare to slumber out beneath the Milky Way.

Sheridan Wyoming's Historical Legacy

We won't, naturally, ignore the historical significance of the area. Inside an hour's drive of you'll run into numerous battlegrounds showing the struggle between Native Americans and early pioneers.

Little Big Horn Battlefield, location of General Custer's massacre at the hands of Sitting Bull's warriors, sits right over the state line in Montana. This lonesome plain presents a poignant history lesson for everyone. Several other important battlefields near Sheridan Wyo chronicle the triumphs and losses controlled by famous U.S. Cavalry officers and such Indigenous American legends as Crazy Horse.

History lovers can find plenty of other sites to research near Sheridan WY ranging from dinosaur displays to the superbly preserved Sheridan Main Street District. Ramble thru vintage shops, museums and studios and absorb the region's history first-hand.
