Hawaii's Greatest Products

By Keola Kawanako

Hawaii is a unique spot. It is located in the middle of the Pacific and is as far away from a continent as a location can be. It's home to many special animals and plants, and it also exports a number of distinctive products.

Can you imagine that one of Hawaii's top exports is bottled water? Well it's true. However this bottled drinking water is different from any other bottled water in the globe. It does not originate from a pristine mountain stream. Instead it comes from the bottom of the Pacific ocean. Water, via melting glaciers in Alaska, travels within an undersea current to Hawaii. This journey requires more than a thousand years. A number of businesses extract this water, remove the salt and bottle it. A lot of this distinctive bottled drinking water is exported to Japan, but people from the U.S. are beginning to purchase it too.

An additional export that Hawaii is well-known for is anthurium flowers. These South American flowers were introduced here inside the 1800s and have turned out to be an established sector of the local economy. Numerous new types were developed by local farmers and also the university and they are sent from Hawaii to quite a few distinct parts of the earth.

Hawaii is also known for Macadamia Nuts, particularly chocolate coated ones. The Macadamia Nut is originally from Australia, but just like the Anthurium it has grown into a large component of the Hawaiian economy. These unique nuts taste incredible when dry roasted and lightly coated with sea salt or when covered in chocolate.

Kona Coffee is yet another superb product from Hawaii. Only coffee that is grown within the zones of North and South Kona can be labeled Kona coffee. Many factors make Kona Coffee special. The first is the fertile volcanic soil that it is raised in. This gives the coffee a unique aroma. The second is the specific micro-climate of the Kona district. Sunny days and afternoon rain showers give the coffee an extremely clean flavor.
