Cheap Flights To Jacksonville, Your Affordable Vacation Plan Starts Here

By John Peyton

Having lived in Jacksonville most of my life, I can remember a time when the speed limits on the roads were not as high as they are now. It seemed it always took forever to get somewhere when on vacation, even via the interstate. Fortunately, the turn of the century brings more technology to the road trip, and anybody in the Jacksonville area looking for a quick getaway will be happy to know that the city is not so large that you can't go anywhere for a day.

A metropolitan minus the pretentiousness, the city plays home to some of the most spectacular vistas, awe-inspiring natural beauty, modern and traditional architecture, and last but the most important, miles and miles long coastline. With so many special packages, attractive rates of almost everything, free events and shows, destination deals, etc., Jacksonville is a haven for those looking forward to an affordable vacation.

Here are just a few more of the many activities to be found in Jacksonville: St. Augustine. St. Augustine is the oldest city in America and was founded in 1565 by Pedro Menendez. One of the main attractions of St. Augustine is the old for that sits near the bridge of the lions. This fort is centuries old and in great condition. While walking through the stone corridors and gazing the rooftop, which used to boast of powerful cannons used to protect the fort, one can get a glimpse of history and almost imagine what it was like to live at the fort during the height of its glory.

Jacksonville has many intriguing sightseeing options that allow for free admission or charge a very nominal fee, these include museums and memorials, art galleries and exhibition centers, performing arts venues and points of cultural and ethnic interest, zoos and aquariums, parks and gardens, and more. Also, finding an accommodation within your budget is quite easy, given the several cheap hotels, bed and breakfasts, guesthouses, youth hostels, motels, and holiday homes.

Amelia Island: For the adventurer, Amelia Island is the perfect North Florida getaway. Kayaking, nature walks, fishing, and exploration of historic Fort Clinch are just a few of the activities that await you here. Afterwards you can enjoy some of the best seafood on the east coast as you watch the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean. Amelia Island is less than two hours from most parts of Jacksonville, and some parts are so compact you may not need your car for most of the day.
