From Paltry Beginnings To Every Day Uses, How Power Tools Have Developed

By Adriana Noton

People have worked hard since the beginning of time to build and design their homes with their bare hands. They have cut the lumber, hammered the nails, and do all the labor with much help. It was very hard work and took many hours to get their homes built. Finally in the late 1800's a company discovered a way to make things a little less tiresome with the invention of power tools.

These early designs were very primitive. They were not easy to handle and balance so they were not very popular. Most often the power was supplied by installing a motor on the back of the tool to give it a little more vigor. The expense of these instruments were quite high and they often were not very reliable.

But over the years, they became more and more usable. The early design of the electric drill, patented in the 1900's had a grip that was similar to gun which made it much easier to hold. The newer saw was given a larger blade and a more powerful motor, but they were still very expensive to produce.

During the war, new innovations surfaced for them out of necessity. Waterproof versions were designed to help the troops needing to make repairs to the sea vessels. During World War II, a nail gun was patented that was loosely designed by the weapons that were used during combat.

Eventually, in the late 1950's tools that were cordless were being sold. The very first design used compressed air cartridges for their power. Shortly after that, companies began creating families of instruments that could be powered by an interchangeable battery.

Many companies are still working to improve and design better devices. Festool, Bosch Tools and Milwaukee Tools are a few of the most popular companies doing just that. There is a constant need for newer and more improved products. Every year something else is coming to the surface.

There are devices for almost every job that can be imagined. Many jobs in carpentry are now being done with these types of equipment. Drywall is another area that is beginning to show more and more new products. There is a hardly construction worker today that does not make use of these types of instruments.

Many of these devices are now connected to computers to help complete the work. They are used to help with cutting and fitting parts together for all kinds of building components. They are used in making wall panels, floor panels and trusses for buildings and homes. With the use of power tools as well as the aid of the computer programs, most of the components for a building can be created on the plant floor. Once these components are moved to the job location, it is just a matter of putting them altogether. This cuts the time involved in the construction of almost any building.

Although it has taken quite a few years for power tools to get where they are today, they are still working on improvements at every turn. They can be found in almost every home in America. They have made it much easier for homeowners and building contracts to do the jobs they need to complete.
