User's Guide To Lake Cumberland Striper Fishing

By Mallory Hinton

If you are an avid sports fisherman, you will want to try catching striped bass in this lake. It is one of the largest artificially made lakes, and there are over 1200 miles of shore line to cast from. This body of water is over one hundred miles in length. The best fishing you ever had may happen right there. Lake Cumberland striper fishing is a unique experience.

The waters will literally seem to be boiling with fish when a school is feeding. There is a huge population of striped bass feeding off the plentiful bait fish that share their waters. These fish can be caught anywhere on the water, from the shore, near the river or deep in the middle of the lake.

They have been protected for years by size limitations and quantity restrictions. These laws are strictly enforced. You must get a license before you fish, and show that you understand the laws. Since you are limited in how many fish you can catch, you may want to try for the bigger fish. They give a good fight, and some of them are record breaking. A guide can usually show you where your best chances are for catching a big one.

The guides will know where the fish are. Bass like warm water, and some areas of the water warm up more swiftly than others depending on the season. Bass are also found near mud flats in the shallower areas.

An experienced fisherman can catch large bass right up close to the shore. They use a technique where the jig is cast up onto the shore rather than in the water. In shallow water, a jig cast may frighten a large fish, and chase it away. The jig is bounced off the shore, and into the water, where it continues its way in short bounces. This movement attracts the bass, and will often get you your fish.

If there are windy conditions, you can use them to drive the bass to you. They will follow the bait fish as they struggle against the currents produced by the wind. If your lure is waiting there, you may get a hit.

A good reason to hire a guide for the day is their boat. They will head out into the deep waters, and you can try and catch the deep water dwellers. When a school hits out on the water, it is an amazing and exciting experience. It may seem like the whole school of fish is attacking one line after another. Boaters will usually use sonar equipment to get an idea where these schools are lurking.

Striped bass are a lot of fun to catch. They can put up a good fight, and it is very exciting to bring one in. This area is a perfect place to go for stripers. There are plenty of cabins and other lodgings available, and a number of excellent guides to get you started. You will have a great time catching stripers here.
