Many Horror Movies Online To Give You Goose Bumps

By Adriana Noton

One genre that has always led the path with independent films is the horror film. Many filmmakers have strayed away from the major studios right from the early days in the fifties, and the films from these mavericks and others, are some of the many horror movies online today. It does not matter whether you are looking for the huge scary blockbusters, or the films so obscure you cannot find them in the video store, the internet is now the best way to find just about any scary title.

Horrors have been around since the beginning of cinema. One of the first ever silent movies was the vampire story, Nosferatu, and you can even find it on some websites, as many of these early classics are now in the public domain. However when sound was introduced, and screams could be heard, cinema, and horrors, changed significantly.

For two decades there were many horrors movie made and by the 1950's there were studios dedicated to making this genre only, and some of the great legends of cinema were born. Dracula, Frankenstein, the Wolfman and so many other monsters and creatures showed up on the big screen, and you can find these classic horror movies online.

Drive-Ins became very popular in America around this time, and so began an avalanche of B-movie titles, the most popular being science fiction or horror, or a combination of the two. These cult classics can be found across the net, and can make for a great night of entertainment.

In the Sixties it was the turn of many top directors to lead the genre. If you watch any of Alfred Hitchcock's horror movies online like Psycho or The Birds, you will see the work of a true master of the craft at work, and they normally won many awards. But it was also the decade that introduced George Romero to the world. Night Of The Living Dead, released in 1968, would influence an entire generation of filmmakers and fans alike.

Today zombies are big business. There have been major studio re-makes, video games, and even home-video fan versions. Fans loved them so much, that many of these home-videos are actually pretty good, and has even led to professional careers for many of the make-up artists, special effects artists and directors who made them.

Special effects and violence became a big part of the film genre in the Seventies, whether they were big productions, independent films and even with the fan-made ones. Low budget scary flicks like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre garnered cult status, as did the big studio releases like Jaws and the Exorcist.

Halloween, Friday the Thirteenth and the Nightmare on Elm Street were just three highly successful scary franchises that produced many sequels. In most cases a successful box-office meant a return, but in recent times there have also been re-makes of some of the hits from the seventies, eighties and nineties, including the above mentioned titles and other classics like Amityville Horror and When A Stranger Calls.

The past two decades has seen horror continue to grow, and find new influences from around the world, especially from Asia, and many Hollywood scary films are remakes of Japanese ones. On the net you can find the original ones too, and see the source of some of those scary moments.
