While it is located in a good, livable place, Niteroi just isn't experiencing the economic surge of hotels and shopping malls that can be found in other places such as Barra da Tijuca. It won't necessarily be the life that you would experience in Copacabana and Ipanema, but you could certainly visit those locations on the weekend.
