Beechworth is a town located in the north of rural Victoria, but it has regained some of its former glory and is now a very popular holiday destination. There is a lot to do and see around Beechworth and it is the perfect romantic getaway destination for couples. Beechworth sprang into being as a gold mining town during the Victorian 1850s gold rush and it is one of the best preserved of these towns with more than 30 heritage trust buildings listed there. As well as visiting the splendid old buildings you can also learn a lot about the local history at the Carriage and Burke Museums or the Chinese Cultural Museum, which looks at the history of the Chinese in the area who came seeking gold in the 1850s.

A trip to the Beechworth Spa is just the trick if you need to be pampered or reduce your stress. The spa is in a heritage building as well as being located on more than 27 acres of century old gardens.
