Exploring The San Jose Calendar of Events

By Eddie Howard

If you're interesting in a robust San Jose calendar of events, then I would recommend you check with the San Jose Mercury News. Now, I'm not trying to shill for the Mercury News, but its got a decent run down of all the latest and greatest events happening in town and around the Bay Area. It's helpful and concise and in the end, that's all you need.

Of course, if you're looking for something that's a little off the beaten path, you can check with the Metoactive. This is the Silicon Valley weekly that has all the listings for concerts and films and theater events. It also has a run-down of events for kids and young adults, so you can plan a family outing or movie night.

If you need a daily dose of what's going on, I recommend SanJose.com. It's a decent daily site that can give you a list of breaking news. They also include a national news section, so you can state current with what's happening in DC or New York. Frankly, I prefer the Merc News, but SJ.com has a lot to offer.

If you happen to be a local, then you can also get your news from your local hotel. I know that sounds kind of cray, but it's not so much crazy as it is old-school. Some of the older hotels, like the Sainte Claire and the Fairmont still encourage their concierges to stay abreast of the local news. And if they're not too savvy, you can always pick up a Merc News in the lobby.

It's not hard to stay in touch with what's happening in San Jose. You just have to know which outlets to hit up and when. Once you get the hang of it, you'll be dishing out the events dirt with the best of them. Just be sure you give credit where credit's due now.
