Cheap Domestic Flights Are Possible

By Lesley Zelatan

Some time ago it was affordable to travel by air. For some it might not have seemed affordable but compared with prices now it was inexpensive. Now we all look at flying anywhere as just as complicated as buying a second home. Tickets are so expensive that many people are opting to have "staycations" and conference calls, instead of vacations and business trips. Yes, this does save money but what's the fun in staying home on your time off. Fortunately for you there are ways to get affordable airline tickets for domestic flights. Read on to learn how you can save money on your air travel.

Consider joining a travel club. There can be many advantages to being a travel club member. First of all, it's a way to find cheap domestic flights. Beyond this, when you join a travel club you enjoy other advantages. They can wait for their flights in exclusive lounges. Certain clubs even allow you to avoid check-in lines. You do, of course, have to pay to join a travel club. You have to look at the various discounts and benefits the club offers and measure this against the membership fees and decide if this will be a net gain for you. If so, then the membership fee can be considered a bargain.

Is it an emergency that has you needing to travel? Discounts due to emergency situations are common among airlines. To qualify for this kind of discount there are different requirements for each airline. One stipulation may be that you need to provide proof of your emergency. You will want to discuss the specific requirements with your ticket agent. Then you need to make sure that you meet those requirements.

You can save money by being flexible with the times too. So many people want to take either very early morning flights or very late at night flights. They do this to make the most of their travel times. Being able to depart or arrive in the middle of the afternoon (or even in the middle of the night) can help you find some incredibly cheap airline tickets. It helps if you can be flexible with this on both legs of your trip. You might also want to be flexible about layovers. Sure they are a pain, but they can lower the cost of your flight considerably.

It isn't hard to find cheap domestic flights. As long as you know where to look, you can save money on your future flights. One tactic you can use is to simply request a better price when you buy your ticket. You are not obligated to pay the full prices that the airlines advertise!
