The namesake port, Port of Miami is the busiest cruise ship passenger port in the world. Located near the southern tip of the Florida peninsula, Miami enjoys some of the warmest, tropical weather in the US and is a mere boat ride from the Bahamas and the Cayman islands.
As a cultural and international trade centre, Miami is one of the most exciting and often-portrayed locations in the world. Many popular movies and television shows have capitalized on the excitement of the city: Miami Vice, CSI: Miami, Burn Notice, Bad Boys, True Lies, Scarface and Casino Royale. If Jazz is your thing, you should go to Jazid, Miami's version of a New Orleans Jazz club. Mango's tropical caf features sexy dancers jiggling to the beat of Latin music. Van Dyk caf features people-watching and live Jazz music every night.
When it comes to night life in Miami, South Beach is the place to be. LIV, located at the Fontainebleau Hotel is a major player in the Miami party scene. It has a huge space; lavish design and outrageous entertainment which makes it stand out from the crowd. Mansion is a renovated art deco theatre which features a range of dance floors, rooms, bars and VIP areas. Mynt Lounge is frequented by actors, models and rock stars making it one of the most exclusive around - if you manage to get in, you'll find a small floor and a long bar serving very expensive drinks. Nikki Beach is an open-air restaurant during the day and a nightclub/lounge at night. Set Miami was named by the Miami New Times as the "Best Dance Club" in 2009: while featuring couches and tables designed for drinking, that doesn't stop the patrons from dancing on them. Not surprisingly, some of these are notoriously difficult to get into, so if you don't happen to bring your own paparazzi with you, you may want to check out the scene early before committing the whole group. Some of these clubs won't even let the kids from Jersey Shore in (a classy move on Miami's part).
