If you are traveling to Johannesburg for business or pleasure, you will want to make sure that you are taking the time to plan your trip as best as possible. This way, you will be able to truly make the most of it and you will not leave feeling as though you have missed out on some of the best sites and places of the area.

Obviously, one of the most important things on your agenda will be to find good accommodation. If you intend visiting several places in and around Johannesburg, then you should ideally try to find accommodation which is quite central to all the places you intend visiting.

One of the places that you will not want to miss out on is the Apartheid Museum, which is always open except for Mondays, Christmas Day and Good Friday. The hours are generally set to 10am to 5pm so there is plenty of time to see everything that you want to see. You will want to try to make sure that you are arriving a little bit earlier than closing since it takes a while to make it all the way through.

For those who would like to have a guide, it's possible the book a guided tour, although it should be mentioned that this service is usually very limited, and for that reason, it's crucial that you book your tour well in advance. It should also be mentioned that if there are more than one of you in the group, there's a small R5 per person fee payable. A regular tour of the museum costs R40 for adults, while senior citizens, students, and children only pay R25 per person.

The Apartheid Museum which is situated just outside Johannesburg has been specifically designed to give visitors a better idea as to how things were during the apartheid era. The museum is situated in the midst of well manicured gardens, and you'll find that out of the 22 different exhibits, some are actually outside. For this reason, if you suspect it may be raining, you'd do well to take a small umbrella with you.

Interestingly enough, all of the exhibits on display have been created by historians, filmmakers, and curators. As a basic rule of thumb, the average person takes approximately two hours to make their way through the museum before they return to their accommodation in Johannesburg.

There's a good bookshop and coffee shop right there where you can stop and relax for a while before you head off, and of course this also provides you with an ideal opportunity to decide where about you want to go next.

One thing is for certain, and that is that there is plenty to do and see in and around Johannesburg. Don't for a minute think that the Apartheid Museum is the only place of interest in the vicinity; so once again, you need to make sure you arrange for the best possible type of accommodation so that you don't have difficulty visiting all the other places of interest in the area.
